Confused by 2021-010 Change Request[edit]

Per that request, xmx (Maden) got its alternative name "Salawati", but here in this article we call slz as "Salawati" to which on SIL part slz is only having name "Ma'ya" which matches this article name, any relations between xmx and slz? --Liuxinyu970226 (talk) 06:06, 28 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]

The ISO code slz is, if I'm not mistaken, for the Ma'ya variety spoken in a few coastal villages on the island of Salawati. The code xmx, newly named Salawati, refers to a group of dialects traditionally spoken in the interior of the island, and currently covered by Maden language. I had whipped up an off-wiki draft a few years ago (just a paragraph or two explaining how little is known about this (group of) language varieties) but didn't get round to putting it here. A short survey appears to have since been published, so probably we'll now have something more substantial to say on the topic. I'll have a look and try to update the article and sort out the redirects in the coming days. – Uanfala (talk) 13:11, 28 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]

I find it all very confusing (unfortunately, I don't know much about the SHWNG languages). The first sentence in the section "Dialects" fails to mention the dialect spoken on Misool, but it is mentioned in the second sentence. Maybe we should stick to the 2018 NUSA paper by Arnold for a coherent description. –Austronesier (talk) 23:10, 28 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]
