Apple response[edit]

This section seems misleading and not encyclopedic. It relies on sources that can't be verified (anonymous Apple employees). Also Apple gives related information on their own pages, this should be added as a primary source: "For the protection of our customers, Apple does not disclose, discuss or confirm security issues until a full investigation has occurred and any necessary patches or releases are available." First, the anonymous sources appear in reliable sources, who have presumably vetted the sources to ensure that they are probably reliable. Second, it would probably not be a good use of a primary source to add the source you are suggesting unless a reliable source has brought up that policy in relation to Mac Defender; without such a secondary source, this proposed addition would seem to fall squarely within WP:SYNTH territory. I am highly dubious that all these so called Mac Keeper pop-ups are legitimate. I have about five times encountered a pop-up after using google images on my Mac which ran a fake system search window indicating that various viruses had been found on my hard drive. Of course I simply closed the browser, so I can't tell you whether it would have installed a trojan. But making false claims that viruses have been detected on your hard drive isn't advertising. It's fraud.

I am watching for sources covering this. There are basically rumours and denials from people claiming to work for Mac Keeper on various blogs at this point. If anyone finds a relevant source he should post it. μηδείς (talk) 18:10, 28 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Vandalism coming soon?[edit]

My first reaction as a PC user was to laugh when I saw this. Anyone think there might be some coming trolling of Mac users in this article when more people find out about this? Page protection is never used pre-emptively per policy. Being on the front page is never an acceptable argument for page protection. And most people, say, from /g/ are intelligent enough to pick the right place to troll and Wikipedia wouldn't be the right place; the proper place to troll would be macrumors.com or something, where the most butthurt would come from; even trolls should have their own standards. Those who aren't underage and pretentious know that they have nothing to gain by editing a Wikipedia article that is watched by n+1 editors where they will be swiftly reverted; I sure not everyone is stupid like that.
