"Big Turtle"[edit]

I'm taking the liberty to delete the suggestion that Michilimackinac means "big turtle." In his 19th century book on the History of the Ottawa and Chippewas, Andrew Blackbird wrote that this was a false etymology invented by white explorers that completely ignored the origin the Ottawa hold to be true. Rather the name is a memorial to a massacred subset of Ottawa. 2602:306:C4E8:C79:CCFC:C37F:2D41:499E (talk) 21:24, 3 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]
