Typical of Wikipedia... data's crap[edit]

They say according to WB madonn'a sold roughly 200m albums.. Well, according to BOTH WB and the IFPI she sold MORE than 200m BEFORE Confessions on a Dancefloor (that meand at least 215m albums now. AT LEAST).

Then they use unsubstantiated threads from anonymous forum posts to put data in!111

Wikipedia has no ideas about what copunts as reliable sources!!!!!!!!!!!!! —Preceding unsigned comment added by 91.104.65.195 (talk) 20:51, 18 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Yeah you're right, we will correct it.

Lounge Album[edit]

I want to know where the supposed Lounge album comes in to play. My Paradise: The Lounge Album, released in 2007 apparently, consists of several remixes and a couple untouched songs.

Track list I have is this:
Bittersweet (Chopped Out Choprah Mix)
Ray of Light (Ambient Edit)
Has to Be
Paradise (Not For Me)
Secret (Dens54 Deep Remix)
I Want You (Dens54 JB Densappella
Frozen (Stereo MCs Edit)
To Have and Not to Hold
I'll Remember (William Orbit Remix)
Nothing Fails (Slow Vocal Remix)
Music (Groove Armada 12" Mix)
Nothing Really Matters (Kruder and Dorfmeister Vocal Edit)
Bedtime Story (Cookie Mix)
Don't Tell Me (Victor Calderone Sensory Edit)
Deeper and Deeper (Funky's Groove On Mix)
What It Feels Like For a Girl (Stephan Pompougnac Remix)
If You Forget Me (Taxi Ride Mix)

Clearly these aren't some fan made remixes, since I know Stereo MCs, William Orbit, and Groove Armada are well known artists. The cover art (which I can post up if requested) seems pretty legit to me.

However, the only results I can find when googling the title is a bunch of torrent sites.--Phant (talk) 00:42, 17 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Fake - The Lounge Album[edit]

This album is a fan-made Fake! Do Not Add. It is not an official Madonna release, it is a torrent made by a fan. Even though some tracks are authentic remixes, this has been compiled by someone other than Madonna, Warner Bros. Records or Warner Music Group. JWAD (talk)

Flags[edit]

As with the singles discography, decorative flag icons need to be removed per WP:FLAG, especially when flags substitute text (i.s. column headers). - eo (talk) 01:24, 26 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Like a virgin 22 millions and True blue 19 millions????????. This sales are fake. True Blue is the best selling Madonna studio album. True Blue has sold 24 million worldwide and Like a virgin 21. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 81.172.63.43 (talk) 12:40, 3 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

THE ALBUMS SECTION[edit]

I would like to propose that we change the Madonna's Albums Discography to one big album chart with all the albums in order, to provide readers with a linear representation of her history. Currently, the albums are all scattered out, and it can be very confusing to get what Madonna's popularity was like at a certain time. This has already been successfully used in Mariah Carey albums discography and it is proving to be quite helpful. HardCandy08 (talk) 19:44, 10 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

answer: I disagree. There need to be a structure so it'll be easier for the reader to follow and search for a particular item. There have already been requests for the albums to be categorized and it's just too much for the eye to have them all in one box and the result is messy.

I agree with whoever posted the answer above. What's the point of having a seperate discography for Madonna's album if that is the case? I'd like it reverted. 99.135.13.124 (talk) 18:12, 10 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I am in VERY VERY VERY strong support of this idea. I strongly disagree that it would make the table messier. I mean, you don't need to seperate the singles do you! It would especially show her works for the years as they go by and shows what she was doing for a while and would more properly show what she did in her career. I agree it makes it MORE confusing to have it scattered out.--The Rogue Leader 13:38, 5 October 2009 (UTC)

Worldwide sales only[edit]

Hello guys, I have an opinion; how about if we just write the worldwide sales in the table, not including countries' sales. Coz, i think the table looks bad with so many numbers of sales. Moreover, it will be more efficient and easy to update. Bluesatellite (talk) 10:33, 8 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Actually it is more difficult to update teh worldwide sales because of no concrete proof by any reliable source. Hence keeping only the WW sales will indeed be tedious to update by time. --Legolas (talk2me) 11:21, 8 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Please revert sales figures[edit]

Wow!! in a matter of days, Madonna's sales have taken a massive jump. (eg; American Life from 4 million to 6 million and Hard candy from 3.5 million to 5.3 million) Celebration has not sold 2 million copies, whatever Guy Oseary says. I think he meant 200,000 not 2 million. In the current climate, no album can sell 2 million copies in 14 days. Let's all keep loving Madonna but not by inflating sales figures. Most other discographies have unverifiable sales figures, so it is easy for one to believe that Madonna may not have sold as much as others. But let us keep this page as true to reality as possible. No offence to a certain German.

Yes I reverted such fancrufty additions and placed the original sourced sales. That particular user was adding fansites like absolutemadonna.com to inflate the sales. --Legolas (talk2me) 04:06, 9 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry about this. Thought absolutemadonna.com will be an official Site for sales. Good to know and appologize for that! The certain German. User: MontyPhyton 01:58, 10 October 2009

HC sales[edit]

The sales figures of Hard Candy are definitely in the region of 3.5 million to 4 million. This is why IFPI stated it was the 11th best selling album in the world in 2008. 1.8 million?? where did that come from.

Can you provide a source for it? Because as far as I can find, HC was certified platinum in Europe by IFPI for sales of 1million. Coupling it with the sales of US I could go as far as 1.8 million. If you can provide a reliable source for 4 million I would be happy to accept it. --Legolas (talk2me) 07:34, 2 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]
The site madonna-charts.com states that according to a statement issued by Warner Japan, HC sold 3 million in physicals and .5 million in digital downloads. They have maintained a very meticulous record of the sales of the album per week of all the countries where official charts exist. I have requested them to provide the said citation from warner japan. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Mo8500 (talkcontribs) 04:42, 3 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]
also there are markets outside Europe and USA. Canada, South America, Asia (Japan), Australia and South America. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Mo8500 (talkcontribs) 04:54, 3 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]
We need a reliable source as per WP:RS, not some fan site which claims something without proof. As I said before, you need to provide a link to the reliable source for your claim. --Legolas (talk2me) 05:07, 3 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Yes I get your point. I am working on it. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Mo8500 (talkcontribs) 05:14, 3 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Cool. Please sign your posts next time. --Legolas (talk2me) 05:18, 3 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Eureka!! Here is the official citation by Warner Japan dated 28th May 2008 saying that Hard Candy sold 3 million copies worldwide. The only problem is that it is in Japanese and it has to be translated to English. The entry is under 2008/5/28. When Translated to English it reads-The album 'the hard candy' breaking 3,000,000 in the world!

Please see if this helps. I think it should. Though I have written to Warner Music also to provide an official statement. Thanks so much. the link-http://wmg.jp/artist/madonna/news007.html Mo8500 (talk) 17:02, 3 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Madonna's contract with Sire did not end in 1991[edit]

The forward on the article is incorrect. Madonna's contract with Sire Records did not end in 1991. The 60 million deal she signed that year was with Sire Records, Warner Bros. Records, and Time Warner. Sire remained her dominate label until it left the WBR umbrella in 1995. Also, Maverick was NEVER Madonna's "main" label. They put the name and logo on her Erotica through American Life albums as a courtesy to her, and to further promote the label itself. Notice how none of Madonna's album actually have a Maverick copyright? Her "main" label was Sire until 1995, and then Warner Bros. after that. — The Real One Returns 10:06, 14 November 2009 (UTC)

Sources state otherwise and Wikipedia goes for verifiablity rather than truth. --Legolas (talk2me) 06:04, 16 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

The Immaculate Collection was released after I'm Breathless[edit]

Madonna did not enter the 1990s with The Immaculate Collection! I'm breathless (1990) was released earlier than The Immaculate. I've corrected the lead section before, but I dont know it changed back.Bluesatellite (talk) 22:37, 21 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Album Picture Discs.[edit]

I notice in the formats section of the majority of the later releases that 'Picture Disc' keeps coming up. The picture Discs available for most of the albums stated are in fact bootlegs. In particular 'The Immaculate Collection' has picture disc listed, but was not released on such a format, however was released as a Box Set, which is not mentioned.Turdalina (talk) 10:09, 13 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

That means 275 million albums sold worldwide. Can we update from the "over 200 million" in the lead? --12345abcxyz20082009 (talk) 15:07, 5 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

That is wrong, the new edition of Guiness books corrected it. --Legolas (talk2me) 05:43, 6 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Orphaned references in Madonna albums discography[edit]

I check pages listed in Category:Pages with incorrect ref formatting to try to fix reference errors. One of the things I do is look for content for orphaned references in wikilinked articles. I have found content for some of Madonna albums discography's orphans, the problem is that I found more than one version. I can't determine which (if any) is correct for this article, so I am asking for a sentient editor to look it over and copy the correct ref content into this article.

COADF worldwide album sales 8.5 million[edit]

  • I have changed the sales of COADF to the accurate 8.5 million with a credible source (Press release), rather than the uncredible 12 million that was stated in the previous article.--LAUGH90 (talk) 01:48, 3 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Chicago Sun-Times is a reliable news media. Wether you like it or not, the figure 12 million is verifiable Bluesatellite (talk) 03:22, 3 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]
LAUGH90, your source points back to a press release of 2006, when COADF sold 8 million. That press release was cited in the fidarticle.com archive. Please stop adding such primary sources, as they fail WP:RS. We already have a credible source in the form of Chicago Sun-Times. Bluesatellite, do we have a consensus to add CST? — Legolas (talk2me) 03:37, 3 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]
No, we have no consensus. I added it to this page several months ago, replacing a Billboard article from early 2006. Do we really need a consensus to update source? I guess not! Bluesatellite (talk) 05:20, 3 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Well, we would need to when this LAUGH90 user is continuously vandalising the page. — Legolas (talk2me) 05:21, 3 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]
COADF has sold over 8 million according to Warner press release in the early 2006. The album itself was released in late 2005 and still on most worldwide charts several months after that press release. LAUGH 90, you need to read again Wikipedia policy: Verifiability, not the truth. If you still vandalize this page, you have to be reported to admin. Bluesatellite (talk) 05:41, 3 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Already did, but it went to the archives before an admin could respond. — Legolas (talk2me) 05:50, 3 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]
  • The press release was in 2008 not 2006. Just because you read something in aritcle like Chicago Sun Times, doesn't mean it's the 100% truth. According to her RECORD LABEL, the album has sold 8.5 million worldwide to date.

I also have this to back me up

LAUGH90 (talk) 19:11, 6 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Whatever! Wikipedia goes to VERIFIABILITY rather than the truth. The reliable Chicago Sun-Times has verified that it sold 12 million. If you still revert, you will be blocked. Bluesatellite (talk) 05:35, 7 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

LAUGH90 i advise you to read Wikipedia:3 revert rule.Moxy (talk) 06:08, 7 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]
LAUGH90, can you not be blind and read that the actual press release, is cited from 2006? Thanks. — Legolas (talk2me) 04:14, 9 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]
  • Wrong, it's from 2008. I'm changing it back.LAUGH90 (talk) 03:58, 13 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Adding BMG Music Club Sales[edit]

Since Nielsen SoundScan does not count Music Club sales in their certifications, I suggest we add them to all Madonna albums which were released in the 1990s/2000s. I have a useful link with Madonna's BMG Club sales http://www.mi2n.com/press.php3?press_nb=47877. What do you think? Mahoneyx (talk) 22:28, 30 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I agree. I added the tally to The Immaculate Collection, but be very careful to note the sales as I did in TIC. — Legolas (talk2me) 03:55, 31 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Special Editions?[edit]

About certifications[edit]

I see most recent featured lists such as Lady Gaga discography, Celine Dion albums discography and Mariah Carey albums discography include all certifications from the countries of peak chart positions, like France, Germany, etc. So, I would like to do the same for this page, what do you think? Bluesatellite (talk) 00:22, 4 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I think there's a lack of space. 29 Madonna albums listed which are certified in every major country. This discography is gonna be packed.Mahoneyx (talk) 22:59, 5 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I don't think it will be a problem. It can surely be added as not all of the albums has received certifications everywhere. — Legolas (talk2me) 05:22, 10 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Certifications[edit]

Is there anyway that the certifications can be made smaller or put into two columns instead of being a long list? Even better, collapsing them as per tracklisting? Each section is looking very big for one entry because of the certifications alone. What do you think? Is this possible? Thanks JWAD Communicate|Nicely 13:55, 9 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, again. Can we please sort out the certification listings, they are becoming ridiculous on this page. Can they not be hidden with a collapsible list or be abbreviated? JWAD Communicate|Nicely 19:05, 19 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Current page looks fine, I don't see any problem Bluesatellite (talk) 04:27, 20 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Most successful solo artist of time with 12 number one albums in UK[edit]

Hi Guys

With Mdna achieving the number 1 album chart position on April 1st 2012, Madonna is now the most successful solo recording act of all time, overtaking Elvis Presley's 11 solo number albums. Source [1]

Please could a very clever person update the discography which states this out of date information;

'In the United Kingdom, she has become the most successful female artist, with 11 number-one albums, tying her with Elvis Presley as a solo act with most number-one albums.[29]'

Only The Beatles have had more number one albums in UK chart history with 15 - and they were a group.

Thanks

Given that the album covers are shown on the indivdidual album pages, would I be correct in imagining there is no downside to showing them (as thumbnails, of course) in the album title column? Albums table[edit]

hey guys, suggestion to make. hows about splitting the table up into different sections for ease of readability? ie studio, compilation, soundtrack etc seems to work really well on FL discographies and makes a long table much easier to read. what do you guys think? Mister sparky (talk) 12:45, 19 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Completely and absolutely agree. Can I request you to add it to your madonna sandbox? --Legolas (talk2me) 13:14, 19 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]
haha been spying at my sandbox eh?! well have added it and made a start, take a looky? Mister sparky (talk) 14:16, 19 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I STRONGLY disagree with it. It makes it confusing and it doesn't show properly what she's done over the years. If where going to do this then why not SOUNDTRACK SINGLES and COMPILATION SINGLES? This project (well, idea) seems to have been rejected but many discographies like Mariah Carey discography have approved of this idea. --The Rogue Leader 13:44, 5 October 2009 (UTC)

Mobile View[edit]

The tables works very poorly in Mobile view. Some of the data is unreadable because it's elongated, in places with one character per line. This may be a result of a poorly thought-out Wikipedia style-sheet but it's worth looking at as this is an unusually complex table and could be simplified.
