Madurese system of stops[edit]

According to Kiliaan's detailed description of the Madurese phonology (Kiliaan H., 1911, Madoereesche spraakkunst. Eerste stuk: inleiding en klankleer, Semarang, Indonesia), the aspirated series is voiced, not voiceless. He stated: "Also peculiar to Madurese is the fact that the voiced occlusives are divided into either unaspirated or aspirated occlusives, viz., b and bh (labials), d and dh (dentals)..." (translated from Dutch by Charles M. Barrack, form one of his articles). The statement that Madurese aspirated stops are voiceless comes from Hopper on the basis on ambiguous description by Stevens. Thus Madurese would have the same system of stops like Kelabit and like recostructed Proto-Indo-European according to the standard (mainstream, non-glottalic) reconstruction.

Pèghu Script[edit]

tl;dr: please provide sources on Pèghu Script orthography if you know of such.

It appears that a user has added texts in Pèghu Script (Arabic Script adopted to Madurese) to this article as a title, as well as to several other articles, including geographical places, and on Indonesian Wikipedia as well. I am having a hard time finding any resources on any sort of an orthographic convention, or any teaching material (similar to these attached, for Javanese and Indonesian [1]) What is the source? specifically for how to use the sukun diacritic the way that it's been used?

@BasilLeaf: I have tagged the Pegon text as OR. Deriving the spelling rules on your own from a Madurese text in Pegon is OR, and also applying it to a text originally written in Latin script is OR. I'd accept the inclusion (many wouldn't) if this were done by a native (or near-native L2) speaker of Madurese proficient in Pegon writing. Are you sure about the way you use ṭā’ and modified dāl? Indonesians often transcribe ṭā’ as ⟨th⟩, but that doesn't mean you can conclude that ⟨th⟩ when used for the retroflex stop will correspond to ṭā’ in Pegon. –Austronesier (talk) 09:58, 22 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
