Difference between Makati Subway and Line 5 subway[edit]

There is a need to distinguish the Makati-led Subway (Abby Binay's pet project) from the official Line 5 or Makati-Taguig-Pasay Mass Transit System Loop (MTSL). The Makati Subway covers only Makati (for reference: route alignment map) while the Line 5 covers the cities of Makati, Pasay, and Taguig (for reference: 2015 MTSL alignment; current alignment also covers connection to Line 4 in Pasig). The Makati Subway and Line 5 alignments only meet in Ayala Avenue. Pureza1908 (talk) 01:17, 6 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

As far as the MTSL Project goes, it was already formally cancelled owning to lapse of NEDA approval from previous administration and reallocation towards Metro Manila Subway Line 9, therefore it is demoted to a historical note similar to that of the GMA-era Northrail Project (replaced by NSCR). DOTr's ongoing talks with Makati City LGU towards integrating it to DOTr-led railways and its DOTr internal re-designation as "Line 5" is the biggest acknowledgement that the successor to the MTSL project is the Makati Subway owning to its alignment having 90% similarity (with only the Pasay and Taguig alignments being opted out but with open possibility of extension or branches to other cities [1] [2] [3]). Yes, there are currently no news on the MTSL Line 5 subway. Nevertheless, the fact remains that the Makati Subway alignment (aside from only operating within Makati), is mostly riverside, while the Line 5 subway that is included in the Metro Manila Transit System being presented by DOTR still uses the MTSL alignment that does not use riverside alignment (it goes straight to BGC from Ayala MRT). The only similarities in the alignments of the Makati Subway and the Line 5 subway is that both run through Ayala Avenue (from Ayala MRT to Gil Puyat). This section is just a relatively small portion of both proposed rail lines.

Other significant details that differentiate Line 5 from MTSL are the interchanges to MMSP (Line 9) in Ortigas South and BGC, and to Line 1 (Gil Puyat and Taft Avenue). Yes, extensions are also planned for Makati subway, but there is still no coordinated and official Line 5 designation for the Makati project, considering it is not part of the BBB program.

DOTR documents online including the map below indicate that Line 5 is still the MTSL project. I just noticed a similar discussion on your talk page. If you have any substantial and properly-sourced documents designating Makati subway as Line 5, please share with us. We would love to hear solid developments about both of these projects. Thank you very much. Cheers! Pureza1908 (talk) 04:30, 16 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]
