Place of Birth[edit]

This site claims Makpal was born in Zharkent, Taldykorgan oblast. Our version says Almaty or Alma Ata. I do not correct yet - hopefully from KZ Pop Idol knows where the Almaty version originates? --Pan Gerwazy 21:36, 14 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Well, it now seems obvious she was born and grew up in Zharkent. However, the oblast is not clear. Almaty or Taldykorgan. This one has her living in Zharkent when she got eliminated: [1] --Pan Gerwazy 23:57, 14 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Fair use rationale for Image:MakpalIsabekova.jpg[edit]

Image:MakpalIsabekova.jpg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot 03:43, 6 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Makpal after 2005[edit]

Only things I have been able to find:

  • she performed at the Moscow Kremlin in 2006
  • she was rumoured in 2006 to be writing her own songs ( <-> eg her hit "Who stops the rain?" was originally by Anastacia)
  • there is a nice clip of an even nicer song by her (Beskonetchnost) on You Tube (seems like Moy Khit 3, but do not know more about that)

I should look into this last one, but, unfortunately, I am entering again a rather busy period in my life, so that may have to wait.

Since the deletion debate, there has been a clear drop in google hits. I give the numbers I found today.

  • 13,600 google hits on the Russian version (down from 37,000 at the time), 271 of whom are claimed unique and relevant.
  • 1,500 google hits on "Маkпал Исабекова" (Kazakh Cyrillic version but with a Romance "k" instead of the diacritic Kazakh letter, I kid you not), (up from 0, did not really check this at the time), 271 of whom claimed unique and relevant (hm seems the google algorithm for claiming uniqueness incorporates this diacritic feature).
  • 1,360 google hits on Romance "Makpal Isabekova", 280 uniques, clearly up, like Kazakh Cyrillic version, but not enough to offset the Russian Cyrillic loss. Many Wikipedia mirrors (some of them still using the version before my edits, with the wrong birth place) but alos You Tube now.
  • 1,280 google hits on the Kazakh Cyrillic version (up from 90-110 at the time), 39 uniques - it would be interesting to know whether this rise is due to an increased web page volume in the Kazakh language (Cyrillic version), as I suspect it may be.

In any case, there is no reason for a new deletion debate, since she was obviously notable at the time and the "no consensus" vote was wrong. And +- 16,000 googles (there are quite a few of double counts here) is still a lot. --Paul Pieniezny (talk) 11:16, 4 March 2008 (UTC) (called Pan gerwazy at the time)[reply]
