Hi there, I'll review this article. PCN02WPS (talk | contribs) 17:59, 25 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Comments below, placing on hold. PCN02WPS (talk | contribs) 18:33, 25 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Lead[edit]

  • "the event was postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic" → link COVID-19 pandemic
  • "Two athletes participated in the swimming tournament: Mubal Azzam Ibrahim and Aishath Sajina, as well as athlete Hassan Saaid" → three athletes are listed here; if Saaid did not compete in swimming, he should be a part of a different sentence
  • "with the later being a returning competitor from the 2016 Rio Olympics" → should be "with the latter"
  • "Badminton player Fathimath Nabaaha Abdul Razzaq was the first badminton player Maldives entered into the Olympic tournament" → repetitive (emphasis is mine); also I believe it should be "the Maldives entered..." since the start of the article refers to the country with "the" in front.
  • "as the flagbearer in" → should be "flagbearers" since there are two

Background[edit]

  • "The Maldives participated in nine Summer Olympics between its debut in the 1988 Summer Olympics in Seoul, South Korea, and the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo, Japan." → this is a little clunky, so I'd recommend simplifying this to "The Maldives have participated in every Summer Olympics since its debut in the 1988 Summer Olympics in Seoul." This way the number of appearances doesn't have to be updated with every Games
  • "was seven at the 1988 Games in Seoul, South Korea" → the link and location of the 1988 Games was given in the sentence before, so they don't have to be given again. This can be reworded as "was seven at the 1988 Games and the..."
  • "No Maldivian has ever won a medal at the Olympics" → needs a citation
  • "For the 2020 Summer Olympics, Maldives" → should be "the Maldives"
  • "from the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil" → link Rio de Janeiro
  • "All of Maldivian participants competed at the Games through universality slots" → a few things here
    • Add word to read "All of the Maldivian..."
    • What is a universality slot?
    • Based on the sentence it seems as though you are describing how they qualified, not how they competed.

Athletics[edit]

  • "universality slots from International Association of Athletics Federations" → add "the" after "from"
  • "that would represent Maldives at the Olympics" → "that would represent the Maldives"
  • Why was only one athlete selected despite two slots being given by IAAF?
    • I couldn't find any specific reason for why only one athlete was chosen. All the sources I found just mentions that Saaid was chosen as the athlete to represent Maldives at the Olympics. -- EN-Jungwon 17:19, 1 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Badminton[edit]

  • "For the first time since London 2012, Maldives entered one badminton player" → switch to "For the first time since London 2012, the Maldives entered a badminton player"; as written it sounds like they entered two or three badminton players instead of one in previous years, rather than this being the first time since 2012 that any badminton players have represented them
  • "to represent Maldives at the Olympic Games" → "the Maldives"
  • "She participated in the women's single event" → "in the women's singles event"
  • "He Bingjiao went on to beat Sorayya Aghaei on 28 July qualifying for the next round with two sets" → "He Bingjiao went on to beat Sorayya Aghaei in two sets on 28 July, qualifying her for the next round"
  • "the former 21–11 and the latter 21–3." → replace "former" and "latter" with "first" and "second"

Swimming[edit]

  • "Maldives received" → "The Maldives received"
  • Was any reason given for Im’aan and Sausan's replacement?
    • I've added that. It needs a bit of copy editing. -- EN-Jungwon 10:06, 2 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]
  • What are "the "A" and "B" standard entry times"?
    • I have rephrased that sentence. -- EN-Jungwon 17:16, 4 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]
  • Background section gives distances as "100 m" while this section uses the full "metre"
@PCN02WPS thank you for the review. I'll get back to this on Friday as I'm currently on holiday and the service here is not good. -- EN-Jungwon 09:48, 26 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
