Can we have a map showing the location of Mallaig, please? --Doric Loon 20:33, 7 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Pronunciation[edit]

Like (I would assume) most English people, I had tended to think of Mallaig as having the stress on the second syllable. I was disabused of this notion when a CalMac announcement pronounced it with a slightly heavier stress on the first syllable. However, I am not sufficiently au fait with IPA to reproduce the sound properly in the article; could someone do that, please? Loganberry (Talk) 20:19, 20 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

The IPA and now also the English-based 'phonetic' respelling are both correct. In Scottish Gaelic, the stress is invariably heavily on the first syllable of a word (with the exception of a very few forms which have come from the fusion or partial fusion of two words, but in many of such cases too the stress has shifted to the first element). So it's nice and easy.CecilWard (talk) 12:47, 29 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Most westerly town on mainland Britain?[edit]

I would draw editors attention to a discussion at Talk:St Just in Penwith#Most westward town? From a review of an editors comments, the claim that St Just is the most westerly town on mainland Britain appears incorrect. However, noting OS and WP geo location stats is original research so is there any recent sources noting Mallaig's claim? LessHeard vanU (talk) 21:27, 21 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Further to the above, in continuing discussions at Talk:St Just in Penwith the only reference to Mallaig's claim as most westerly town describes the settlement as a port and village - but not a town. Is there any source noting that the settlement is a town? LessHeard vanU (talk) 13:05, 23 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Origins of Mallaig[edit]

"Divided up the farm of Mallaigvaig into seventeen parcels of land and encouraged his tenants to move to the western part of the peninsula and turn to fishing as a way of life" seems to be a mealy-mouthed way of referring to the clearance of north Morar to create a sporting estate — Preceding unsigned comment added by Nasty swimmer (talkcontribs) 14:38, 10 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]
