Relevant discussion elsewhere[edit]

There is some material relevant to the question of the number of species to be recognized in the discussion at Talk:Mandragora officinarum#Requested move 2015. Peter coxhead (talk) 09:45, 31 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Twistlethrop (talk) 20:07, 7 November 2017 (UTC)== Alkaloids and poison ==[reply]

Under Toxicity, the second paragraph stated "The presence of alkaloids makes plants poisonous". That was a faulty generalization, so I removed the sentence; the rest of the section is clear enough as it is. Twistlethrop (talk) 03:48, 12 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]

I have also revised the leading sentence of paragraph 2 of the article for the same reason; overlooked it on my earlier edit. The poisonous characteristics are covered under Toxicity so I removed the mention of them.Twistlethrop (talk) 20:07, 7 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]

They're usually green, then ripen to yellow. Valgrus Thunderaxe (talk) 03:47, 18 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Apparently the ancient Egyptians grew these as a crop[edit]

I'm unsure what for in full, but I came across it in a book on ancient egypt (Tutankhamun's Egypt by Cyril Aldred) which mentions it being grown as a crop but elucidates no further.

Apparently used in beer-making. Here's a modern attempt at reproducing this <https://www.homebrewersassociation.org/zymurgy/pharaoh-ale-brewing-a-replica-of-an-ancient-egyptian-beer/>. Might be worth a mention but some idiot's going to overdo it.
