Twentieth century Stagings[edit]

Twentieth Century Stagings in Britain - it WAS certainly staged on two nights in the autumn of 1918 at Drury Lane, with a cast including Edith Evans, under the auspices of Sir Thomas Beecham - who padded out Schumann's score with other Schumann compositions not written for the piece. Since Beecham was not known for invariably presenting ucut musical scores, it may well be that he didn't present every word of Byron's text. Peter Cohran's 2016 book on "Manfred" lists the performance but is silent about the script used. The occasion is a famous one among music lovers, nonetheless. The BBC has broadcast the work in sound more than once, and Beecham made an LP recording of a VERY cut text Delahays (talk) 23:00, 30 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]
