Could somebody who speaks Hindi or is with Manna Dey's work fix up the discography section? It's really chaotic right now, and it's difficult to tell which are albums and which are songs. RedRollerskate 17:37, 17 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Just a few basic copyedits to improve the overall quality of the article.

Replace: "Prabodh Chandra Dey (1 May 1919[1] better known by his nickname Manna Dey, is a playback singer in Hindi, Bengali, Gujarati, Marathi, Malayalam, Kannada, Assamese films and has also sung songs in Indian languages of Bhojpuri, Awadhi, Magahdh, Punjabi, Maithilee, Konkani, Sindhri and Chattisgarghi. He made his debut as playback singer in the film Tamanna in 1942. He has recorded more than 4000 songs from 1942-2013 and his peak period in singing Hindi film songs is considered from 1953-1976."

He is now in a critical condition.[2] On 9 June 2013 there were reports of his death, but the doctors put the rumours to rest by confirming that the legend was still alive and his situation was stable but critical as the infection had led to other complications.[3] In 9 July 2013m it was reported that his health is recovering and that doctors took him off the ventilator on the afternoon of July 5."

Thereafter he attended Scottish Church Collegiate School and Scottish Church College,[5] and Manna Dey manifested a keen liking for sports events like wrestling and boxing and excelled in both till his college days. He graduated from Vidyasagar College. He did stage shows as a child singer in school since 1929."

With: "Dey was born in Calcutta, then a part of British India, to Purna Chandra (father) and Mahamaya Dey (mother). Besides his parents, he was also inspired by his youngest paternal uncle, Sangeetacharya (meaning "Venerable Teacher of Music" in Sanskrit) and K. C. Dey. He received his early education in a small pre-primary school named Indu Babur Pathshala. Thereafter, he attended Scottish Church Collegiate School and Scottish Church College,[5] and Manna Dey manifested a keen liking for sports events like wrestling and boxing and excelled in both till his college days. Removal of maintenance tag[edit]

Jehochman removed the Template:refimprove tag from the article. I diagree with this. The article has the exact problems which refimprove discusses. The biography is overlong, and has very few inline references. It would be worth seeing what obituary writers consider to be the important parts of the story of Dey's life, and trim and reference the biography accordingly. --LukeSurl t c 15:34, 24 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Please list here the specific improvements you'd like to see. Keep in mind that inline references are not required. You should point out specifically which information is dubious that you are challenging. Rather than slapping on a maintenance tag that provides no specifics, and just damages the appearance of the article (the reader can already see that it doesn't have inline references in some sections), please make suggestions on the talk page and see if you can find a source or two to provide a couple references. There is no source for any of the facts in the first, second and fourth subsections of the Film career section (and the third has only a couple of references). Only one of the Manna_Dey#Accolades_and_awards acccolades and awards is supported by a reference. The problems with the verifiability of this article are extensive, the vast majority of this article's content cannot be verified. If the Template:refimprove tag is not appropriate for this article, then I'm not sure where it would ever be appropriate. --LukeSurl t c 15:51, 24 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Bingo! You win the prize for correctly recognizing that maintenance tags are pretty much never appropriate on an article that is being watched by lots of editors. They might be useful on a half-baked article that's just been started one or two editors and hasn't received much attention. This article isn't one of those. If you doubt the information, remove it.
