Advert, but quality, notable, informative article[edit]

This was a much-needed article, and it is well-written, highly informative, and, yes, it is notable. Google Trends shows MapR has reached one-fourth the traffic of HDFS (and MapR is most well-known for its file system).[1] Also, there is precedent for having articles dedicated to vendor-specific Hadoop technologies; for example, see Cloudera Impala.

Yet, there is no escaping the fact that at present the article contents are authored entirely by an employee of the vendor. I have removed the Notability and Refimprove templates, but regretfully I've no choice but to add the Advert and COI templates. This is a fantastic article that User:TedDunning has written, but if some users of the MapR FS technology rather than the vendor can edit it to more accurately reflect notability on the individual points within this article, then the Advert and COI templates can and should be removed. For example, the article presently reflects only why the vendor developed various MapR FS features and doesn't include why and how users make use of those features.

It is my hope that the Advert and COI templates encourage MapR FS users to improve this article. Because it is notable, the Advert and COI templates should not be interpreted to imply that this article should be deleted or even merged into another article (such as the MapR or Apache Hadoop articles).

Disclosure: My employer sells Hadoop solutions using Hadoop distributions other than MapR.

Given MapR's demise, this page isn't an advertisement. and while Ted Dunning was involved in the project, he's provided a really good technical description. I'm going to remove the multiple issues template for this reason. It was a nice design SteveLoughran (talk) 16:38, 13 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Michael,

Thanks for the thoughtful comments. I will point out your suggestions to some customers.

Also, your employer should check out MapR :-) Even if it would affect your nominal neutrality.
