[Untitled][edit]

Management of map databases for in-vehicle navigational units is a major concern. As navigation units become more prevalent and perform more functions it is important to keep the maps they use up-to-date and extendable. This article is intended to provide information about underlying issues. It is hoped that the article is developed by contributors over time to become a comprehensive and valuable reference for map database management. Roesser 00:10, 30 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Feature Vs. Entity[edit]

I notice that you reference the ISO in your article. Here is a short quote:

ISO 14825:2004 specifies the conceptual and logical data model and the exchange format for geographic data bases for Intelligent Transportation System (ITS) applications. It includes a specification of potential contents of such data bases (features, attributes and relationships), a specification of how these contents shall be represented, and of how relevant information about the database itself can be specified (metadata).

'Entity' is not a defined term in a GIS or GDF or any spatial database. I would like to see your references.

You are correct. ISO 14825:2004 does use "features" in this way. I'm convinced. Roesser (talk) 21:46, 16 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Integration with other GIS Pages?[edit]

This page seems to be the perspective of the vehicle navigation industry on topics covered in several other GIS pages, such as Data model (GIS) and Spatial database. Is this perspective unique enough to warrant its own page? Wouldn't it be better to incorporate the content into more generally applicable pages. At the very least, this page should have a lot more links to those other pages. Bplewe (talk) 20:46, 4 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
