this article as it stands reads like a fan-written "biography" more than anything encyclopaedic. in particular, no references are given for a number of statements, and (before I edited them) the wording for a number of sections was decidedly POV.

additionally, I edited the (now-dead) original link to the "self hating jews" page to reference a page discussing the list itself; however I've yet to see any evidence the list has any kind of importance which warrants its inclusion in this article. --Black Butterfly 11:57, 1 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Bio section[edit]

This is not biographical information - the writer has copied and pasted the glowing comments from the back covers of the subject's books. I should think, in addition, that a balanced treatment might include his relationship with controversial figures, groups. and positions, such as Norman Finkelstein - he endorses Finkelstein's The Holocaust Industry - Palestinian Solidarity, a "One State" solution to the Palestinian question, and is said to be widely cited in Holocaust denial literature. Changing content[edit]

Hello everyone,

The information on the website is not current. After discussions with Baylor University Prof. Marc Ellis formally retired from Baylor University and any mutual acussations Baylor and Ellis could have finished in an agreement. I tried to modify this but another editor did not accept the request. Please be aware I was the person introducing the paragraph I want to modify. There is currently no process against Marc Ellis at Baylor and there is not acussation of Marc Ellis against Baylor at the present moment. That makes the information I wrote a year ago inaccurate. Please accept the modification or at least delete the paragraph with the information that is not current. Marc Ellis is currently not a professor at Baylor and since his retirement was done according to the guidelines of Baylor University there is no public announcement (i.e. source) except in the private records of the university. If the editor has any doubts she/he can contact Baylor University directly. I apologize. I am not an usual wikipedia editor. I am a professor in the same field of Marc Ellis who thinks this information that is posted in the article is inaccurate and does not represent the current state of affairs of the case. You will not find 'sources' (i..e internet sources) because this was an agreement between an organization and a particular to put an end to a situation of mutual accussations. A good researcher knows very well that sources one find in internet are not fully reliable so to ask for an internet source as the only possibility to certify a claim defeats the purpose of free circulation of ideas. If wikipedia was born to offer accurate information independently of authorative sources, the editors who reverted the article are not offering the best service to the public. Marc Ellis is not currently in the faculty of Baylor and, according to the records of the university itself, he retired. I strongly believe this should be enough to put an end to this discussion. Fanovian, please first let me tell you I thank you for your work editing articles. I have seen your record and all of us who use the system are thankful. But here I have information from the author himself about this situation. The Center of Jewish Studies website was not taken down but the center is not functioning anymore. A very short surf through the website will show that a center that hosted at least 15/20 events the years currently has none listed since last year. A simple call to Baylor will confirm this fact. He is not listed in his department webpage (http://www.baylor.edu/history/index.php?id=75248). We don't know the details of the settlment that were private between and organization and an individual. But there is no activity in his center (that has been dismantled), he is not listed in the website and according to official Baylor records he retired as of this Fall 2012. Unfortunately this is all the information I can provide. I believe that mantaining the focus in the mutual accussations hurts both the institution and the individual especially when both of them have tried to leave them behind. Thank you for your understanding. I would like to add the phrase "Marc Ellis retired from Baylor in the Fall of 2012. During his retirement years he will be visiting professor in a number of universities in North America, Europe and Latin America." As this is a BLP issue, you should send an email to info-en-q@wikimedia.org, explaining the situation with reference to this discussion, and include the evidence for your claim.
