Lede and infobox[edit]

  • "Fu in 2017 reached a career high world ranking of fifth in the world." - you've just said that it's a world ranking, so surely "in the world" is just repeating yourself
  • I realise the link for nicknames takes you to cited sources, but the nicknames themselves aren't referenced in this article - similarly, his current ranking of 120 and career earnings don't seem to be referenced or mentioned anywhere else
    • I've removed the non-cited info, but the current ranking is put on by a template (Template:Infobox snooker player/rankings). I'm going to speak to the guy who adds this, and see if we can't add something to the infobox as to where it is sourced.   • Why is his highest ever ranking of fifth only mentioned and referenced in the infobox? Surely that's worthy of a proper mention

Early career[edit]

  • "Hong Kong Billiard Sports Control Council Co. Ltd. President Joseph Lo invited him to return to Hong Kong to begin his career" - that's quite a long name for a company, but considering it's not linked to anything, what does it actually mean? What did the company do?

  • Paragraph one cites the same source three times with no need, just have it once at the end

  • The wayback machine link for reference #5 doesn't seem to be working for me, could you check if that's just me?

  • "WSA Young Player of the Year in 1999" - WSA isn't mentioned anywhere else

Rise through the rankings (1999–2003)[edit]

  • "he made a run to the quarter-finals before losing to Allister Carter." - what's your rule for including scores? In the previous section you have after every reported match, but not here
    • Sure, I only really add notable scores. The first section only notes scores on route to his first final. And then it was defeating top players, and future world champions.   • Again there's some scoring inconsistencies, giving the score for the 2002 UK Championship but not the 2001 World Snooker Championship

  • "Snooker Scene later described the match between O'Sullivan and Fu as "one of the greatest upsets in the history of the game"." - the BBC article referenced next after this does not say anything of the sort
  • Is "Rise through the rankings" the best heading for this? If my reading is correct, he starts 1999 at #35 and is #19 in 2003, which considering the fluctuations in between those two events doesn't seem to be such a clear "rise" as is suggested

First ranking tournament title (2004–2008)[edit]

  • Scoring inconsistencies again, will stop pointing them out from now on..!
  • " Fu qualified for all the tournaments except the Malta Cup." - reference #28, the next one given, does not mention the Malta Cup
  • "He finished the season ranked 25, falling seven places." - his last mentioned ranking was 16, which as long as my maths hasn't failed me, isn't seven places from 25
  • "The 2005–06 season did not end any better." - you say this, but then the last event mentioned for this season is him going to the World Championship semi finals?
  • "In the 2006–07 season he did not play in the 2006 UK Championship so he could play in the 2006 Asian Games" - a bit too much "play"ing for more liking here. Perhaps "In the 2006–07 season he did not play in the 2006 UK Championship so that he could instead attend the 2006 Asian Games"
  • "where he won two medals." - need to mention that they were silver, per infobox? Also, this whole segment on the Asian Games isn't referenced.
  • "2007 Grand Prix" should be linked
  • "He played China's Ding Junhui" - you've already mentioned Junhui by now, why is it important that he's Chinese here?

UK Championship finalist (2008–2010)[edit]

  • "a repeat of last season's final." is this the wording you want to use considering he won the final?!
  • What round was the World Championship match against Gould? Seems rare that you don't mention it
  • "At the last ranking event of the season, the World Championship Fu faced Martin Gould..." - comma after championship?

Masters finalist (2010–15)[edit]

  • Guangzhou should be linked
  • In the first paragraph the final 4 sentences all begin with "Fu" which is a little jarring to read
  • Sheffield should probably be linked too, it's not exactly London!
  • "Players Tour Championship Order of Merit" - to clarify, this is completely distinct from the world rankings?
  • "German Masters" in paragraph 2 should be linked, as the others later on are
  • Reference #69 is a dead link
  • Can "Australian Open" be linked in paragraph 4?
  • "Allen reiterated his views that Fu had cheated in a prior match" - this seems rather interesting, is it not possible to expand on what the allegations were exactly?
    • From memory, Allen just thought all Chinese players were cheats. He got a massive fine, but never really suggested why he thought he was a cheat. It's an interesting one, as he later did suggest Cao Yupeng was a cheat, and was fined again, but Cao was later banned for match fixing, so who can say?   • "safety play" seems a little technical for something without a link
  • "Fu edging the match 6–4 just after midnight local time" - i don't think it's really necessary to state that it was local time
  • "and in the first rounds"?
  • "by seeing off the likes of Stephen Maguire..." - this is pretty informal language, perhaps something like "recording victories against veterans such as..."
  • " He lost to world number 65 Rod Lawler 2–4 in the final." - I assume by your stating of Lawler's world ranking that this was a bit of an upset, in which case this could be clarified

  • Judd Trump is linked for the first time in the last paragraph, but is mentioned many times before this
  • "regain his place in the top 16 of the world rankings." - seems worth it here to note exactly what his placing now was
  • Assume from a brief search that Mitchell Travis just doesn't have an article
  • "Fu beat world number one Neil Robertson in the last 16 of the World Open 5–4 on a re-spotted black and eliminated Mark Joyce 5–3." - the continuity of this sentence reads like Joyce was somehow also part of the last 16 match, could you clarify his round here too? (I realise it should be obvious, but you never know!)
  • "he suffered a surprise 4–2 defeat against Gerard Greene" - able to clarify why this was a surprise?

Later career (2015–present)[edit]

  • "Fu had poor start to his first round match" - missed an "a"
  • Citation needed at end of paragraph 4 - also could note there what round he lost to Haotian in
  • "Following the eye surgery..." - you've already noted one event that Fu played at after his surgery, so this seems a little out of place here

  • "and the 2020 European Masters" - why is there no narrative of what happened at this tournament?
  • "his last appearance being at the 2020 Welsh Open." - worth noting what he managed there?

Status and records[edit]

  • "...at the 2000 Scottish Masters..." - why is this not recorded in the narrative as well? Seems his first maximum break might be notable

Personal life[edit]

  • "He currently lives in London" - last paragraph of Later Career disagrees, saying he's currently living in Hong Kong?
  • "and who has an MA in supply chain logistics" - do we need to know what kind of degree his wife has...?
  • "The couple attempt to explain to their children the reasons why the family is vegetarian, especially the importance of respecting life, but Fu insists it is up to them to decide as they grow older and have better faculties of reason." - this is a very clunky sentence and to be honest I don't quite see the point of it
  • The primary reference for paragraph 2 is a YouTube link, what exactly is Sports Bastille?

Career finals[edit]

  • Why are some finals given a particular colour in the table, e.g. UK Championship, Premier League, but not others?
  • Unless I'm missing something, the amateur finals listed don't seem to be also listed in the reference for this section

      I would argue that as the links are dead I can't access the information to see if what they reference is actually there. To me it's akin to there being no reference at all. I'd be much happier if they were fixed! I'm in agreement with all your other changes and responses here, and have made one minor change in the article which hopefully won't be contentious.
