Bias?

Bastiaan is obviously a very controversial figure in the Victorian Liberal party to say the least. I get the distinct impression from reading the article that many irrelevant things have been added which merely serve the purpose of damaging Bastiaan and assassinating his character. How on earth is the demerit point story in the article or his friendship with someone who once got into a fistfight relevant? This article reads like a few factional Liberal party hacks have gotten together to write a hit-piece on him. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 218.215.178.124 (talk) 06:07, 15 April 2018 (UTC)

Yeah this article has in the past been a bit partial, its to be expected though with the more Bastiaan rises up the more attention he will from the factional Liberal hacks etc.

Is Bastiaan a Republican or a Monarchist?

Does Bastiaan support the Republic? 110.22.50.32--110.22.50.32 (talk) 16:20, 9 June 2018 (UTC) Bastiaan is a monarchist though he does support a Republic model where the elected President in the Australian Republic does a term of six years.

Bastiaan on gay marriage?

Bastiaan was questioned by journos about being for gay marriage pp [[3]] — Preceding unsigned comment added by 110.22.50.32 (talk) 08:39, 11 June 2018 (UTC)

Who cares? He's neither standing for nor a member of parliament. And it's really no longer an issue in Australia. HiLo48 (talk) 10:02, 11 June 2018 (UTC)
This is not an answer either way, therefore it doesn't get included per WP:BLP. The Drover's Wife (talk) 10:40, 11 June 2018 (UTC)

Although a article indicated Bastiaan is personally in favor of gay marriage I accept the facts at hand that it should not be included. --110.22.50.32 (talk) 06:00, 4 July 2018 (UTC)110.22.50.32|110.22.50.32--110.22.50.32 (talk) 06:00, 4 July 2018 (UTC) Bastiaan does not support gay marriage he is a true genuine conservative you were just trying to diminish his character.

Cleanup

As some will notice, I just did a major cleanup and restructure. I will pause for now (it's bloody hard work!), and am inviting others to constructively add to what I have done. Note to Liberal party aficionados - we do not need more internal party trivia thanks. HiLo48 (talk) 06:03, 21 June 2018 (UTC)

Thank you - it is much, much better than it was. It could really use a full rewrite based on what reliable sources have to say about Bastiaan, but at least this pruned-of-crap article is a good start. The Drover's Wife (talk) 08:12, 21 June 2018 (UTC)
I removed some of the less relevant details about his business and family life. If notability is established (and I am not sure it is) then the primary thrust should be the political aspects. Shritwod (talk) 01:59, 24 July 2018 (UTC)
Thanks - good job. The Drover's Wife (talk) 02:40, 24 July 2018 (UTC)

James Newbury currently Liberal Candidate for Brighton

Newbury is now the Liberal candidate for Brighton, Newbury was backed by Bastiaan.--110.22.50.32 (talk) 05:15, 8 August 2018 (UTC)110.22.50.32 --~~

[[8]]

And it's a very minor piece of news in relation to this article. Not worth mentioning. HiLo48 (talk) 06:53, 8 August 2018 (UTC)
Newbury should he win the at next state election will be the member for Brighton a safe Liberal seat. It is not some marginal it has had a state Treasurer Alan Stockdale represent it prior to Louise Asher becoming the MP for it. Newbury is still mentioned on the Matthew Guy page. --110.22.50.32 (talk) 07:50, 8 August 2018 (UTC)110.22.50.32--~~
Guy said he wants more women in the parliament but Newbury winning over Felicity Frederico and Margaret Fitzherbert was seen as something contradicting that, same with Brad Rowswell winning pre selection in Sandringham. --110.22.50.32 (talk) 07:53, 8 August 2018 (UTC)110.22.50.32--~~
This was also prior to Guy and Bastiaan meeting for the first time to put differences aside. Newbury got pre selected because of Bastiaan's support during 2016. It may be seen as a minor piece of newws but if Newbury ends up a Mp that will give it more notability 110.22.50.32 (talk) 08:02, 8 August 2018 (UTC)110.22.50.32--~~

In New South Wales former Australian Prime Minister Tony Abbott spoke at a Democratic reform convention.

Marcus Bastiaan also spoke as well as Angus Taylor. The event was held in the year 2016 which was thirteen months after Tony Abbott was overthrown as Prime Minister by the current Liberal PM and party leader Malcolm Turnbull. This is a citation regarding Bastiaan speaking at the reform convention.

For our new editors

@161.43.216.34 and 110.22.50.32: you are welcome to contribute to the Marcus Bastiaan article and other articles, but make sure it is written so that the ordinary Wikipedia reader can understand it. Many of the terms and phrases here are only known by people in politics, particularly the Liberal Party, and there is plenty of context missing. Obviously you both are involved in the party, but most readers are not. Also make sure there are references for new facts, and personal attacks on the subject are not allowed. There is also no need to continuously make a section in the talk page every time you want to bring up something about Bastiaan. Onetwothreeip (talk) 04:00, 13 August 2018 (UTC)

Is it okay the article mentions Bastiaan point of view on recruiting people to the Liberal party which is sourced or not? as the article mentions the accusations of branch staking having Bastiaan's point of view mentioned is merely giving the other side of the matter. --110.22.50.32 (talk) 08:20, 15 August 2018 (UTC)110.22.50.32--~~

The article can include allegations of branch stacking. Everything has to be supported, it's not good enough to claim Bastiaan is branch stacking just because the article includes his response. Onetwothreeip (talk) 08:36, 15 August 2018 (UTC)
