Need Info/Please Make Clear[edit]

Somebody added this to the article: "The existing episodes survived because it directly followed "Captain Video," which was regularly kinescoped, and "Marge and Jeff" was preserved on the same 30-minute reel of film". I'm just curious then, why 20-plus "Marge and Jeff" episodes remain, while the "Captain Video" segments don't (The majority of extant "Captain Video" episodes date from before 1953, with only about 4 or so episodes existing from the period "Marge and Jeff" was on the air). This does seem a little odd, so anyone have any info? Retro Agnostic (talk) 04:47, 30 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

To the best of my knowledge, there never was a deliberate effort to kinescope "Marge and Jeff" because it never attracted a sponsor in its year on the air. It survived only because "Captain Video" had a number of sponsors, and therefore, it was kinescoped for circulation to non-interconnected stations, for delayed broadcast. The survival of "Marge and Jeff" thus appears to have been a happy accident. I cannot speak to what happened to those "Captain Video" episodes; they should have been preserved on the same reel of film, but a lot can happen in over 50 years. 173.71.190.118 (talk) 13:48, 6 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]
