I have some specific comments about some of the writing that didn't fit well into the review sheets so I thought I'd leave them here. 1. In the first sentence, I think it would be useful to link to a page that explains what hydrothermal means. 2. In the Geologic Setting section, I was confused by the sentence "The fore-arc is located to the east of the Mariana volcanic arc, both of which have formed due to the subduction of the Pacific plate beneath the Philippine plate." Specifically the first part of the sentence because my understanding from the previous sentences was that the fore-arc was a part of the Mariana volcanic arc, but here you are referring to them as separate things. 3. "This remnant arc was left behind as the trench migrated westward ~6 Ma, resulting in the formation of the currently active volcanic arc." I found this sentence confusing as well. Are you saying that the remnant arc formed an active arc? Or are you referring to the same active arc from the previous sentence? 4. In the serpentine mud section, I think the sentence "This means that serpentine in the fore-arc mantle forms via the hydration of olivine (Mg2SiO4) and enstatite (MgSiO4). This reaction results in the formation of Mg-rich serpentine (Mg3Si2O5(OH)4) and brucite (Mg(OH)2)." could use some rearranging to make it more clear. Before this, you haven't even mentioned serpentine, so I found it quite jarring. I'd recommend saying "The hydration of olivine and enstatite results in the formation of Mg-rich serpentine and brucite." This connects to the previous sentence better and the point you're trying to emphasize is at the end of the sentence. 5. For the chemical reactions in this section, it would be useful to label them so the reader knows what they are. I also think it might be useful to include pictures of the minerals or the mud itself. 6. At the beginning of the Pore Fluid Chemistry section, you mention various gases. Are these the same volatiles you were discussing in the previous section? If so, use consistent terminology. It also might be useful to explain what the pore fluid of the mud IS, as there are lots of different things pore fluid can be talking about. 7. You also mention serpentinization in the pore fluid section, but you didn't define or use this word at all in the previous section which makes it a bit confusing.

Hopefully this is helpful, overall I think it's in pretty good shape! DirtGal (talk) 14:31, 12 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]
