Bosnian and Serbian[edit]

As there is some dispute over this we are looking for very strong citation to add anything to this. Actually he is Austrian which is clear by the team he has chosen to play for and his birth place and his mother. I would like to keep the article stable so if anyone has some comments on this issue lets discuss it here first. Ok. Off2riorob (talk) 11:57, 12 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Actually Arnautovic means "THE ALBANIAN"[edit]

May be some distant predecessor. Definitely not a serb name besides the suffix -vic.--207.164.4.52 (talk) 19:09, 11 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Edit request on 2 September 2013[edit]

The article should be changed so that it says he plays for Stoke City. FrankGallagher1863 (talk) 03:22, 2 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Not done: please provide reliable sources that support the change you want to be made. —C.Fred (talk) 03:37, 2 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]

marko arnautovic is a stoke city player number 23 four year deal undisclosed fee 78.150.200.116 (talk) 04:34, 2 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Not done: :The article states that he is a Stoke player, however, a quick Google showed no evidence of his number (yet, it will doubtless emerge soon). The article also states the length of contract. Matty.007 14:06, 2 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Arnautović[edit]

The Arnautović surname is not "evidence" that he would be of Albanian origin. The term "Arnaut" comes from Turkish, meaning "Albanian", however, the surname is derived from a nickname, given to murderers and other criminals — a pejorative. It was also given to Serb people from Albanian-inhabited areas, or near Albanian areas (arnautluk). The patronymic thus derives from an ancestor who was bad, or came from a specific region, but was not Albanian. It would be good if users stop using unreliable sources and do some anthropological studying. --Zoupan 03:34, 15 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Number of appearances[edit]

To Egghead06 and Inter&Anthro: I don't understand why the totals should be wrong: 59 Twente + 3 Inter Milan + 84 Werder Bremen + 145 Stoke + 38 West Ham = 329. This really is not 327. League apperances for the same clubs are 44 + 3 + 72 + 125 + 34 = 278, not 276. Why was my edit reversed? If the totals of 327/276 are right, then some of the detail must be wrong. Thanks.Stefan Verdorie (talk) 09:15, 26 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Based on the figures, you would appear to be correct. An edit summary would have helped as people make random changes to figures without explanation is always suspect.--Egghead06 (talk) 10:10, 26 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]

I guess that you are quite right with your remark. The thing is that I am just a visitor, without any knowledge about common rules here. I had to search a lot to find what I could mention above. I have no idea where I have to write an 'edit summary'. If you perhaps could explain it, I will certainly do it in the future. I am an accountant, and I have the bad habit of always looking if the math is correct. It is stronger than myself. And here, it obviously is not correct. There are so many articles where this is the case, that I just thought by myself 'I would better start to rectify those things'. So, I supposed that I just had to correct it, because one only has to count to see that the new total is right. But if I could learn what one should do in such a case, I would of course abide by the rules. Thank you. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Stefan Verdorie (talkcontribs) 12:03, 26 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]

@Stefan Verdorie: Info on edit summaries can be found at WP:ES, but it's basically the box labelled 'Summary' below the main edit box (or the second box if you're using Visual Editor). I've added a welcome message to your talk page which contains lots of other useful information for newcomers. Please remember to sign your posts on talk pages by typing four tildes (~~~~). Thanks.
