Yellow number 5

what is this about yellow number 5? i think the 5 has no significance. they were originally called Maroon and only added 5 because a band already had that name. i really don't think the two are related... thoughts? confirmation?

The number 5 was added to the band's name because there are 5 members in the band. The name was changed after guitarist James Valentine joined the group, bringing the number of members to 5. Not very exciting really, but that's the story. -Malia

Maroon 5 and Jamiriqui

okay i might be a little off or it might be the sleepyness seeping in, but i think that the voice sounds almost identicle... the Jamiriqui voice sounds more youthful whereas the Maroon 5 voice sounds older, but this would make sence seeing as how Jamiriqui was befor Maroon 5... am i the only one who feels this way? remember this is only a theory of mine, i might be wrong, but i dont wanna be called an idiot because of it. if you listen to both of the groups then you might hear the similaities for yourself. like i said i might be wrong, and in no way am i saying they are the same singer, but it is cool that they sound almost identical

by the way, i am sorry about my typeing, i realize the spelling is probly all wrong and the non-useage of the uppercase lettering.

Two articles where only one is needed

I agree with the merging of the 'Kara's Flowers' article with the 'Maroon 5' one, it seems only logical as they are more or less the same band.

I disagree on this issue of merging the pages into one. Kara's Flowers was a completely different band than Maroon 5, their musical styles are very different. Kara's Flowers evolved over several years into one of the leading local bands in LA to infuse funk and soul into rock. I ran a local internet radio station which supported Kara's Flowers from the early days up to thir contract with Octone Records. We and our listeners could clearly hear and see a difference once the band changed their name and style to what they are now known as, Maroon 5. -Malia

I completely disagree with the merging. This isn't like, say, Jefferson Starship/Jefferson Airplane/Starship. Kara's Flowers is a completely separate entity. While Maroon 5 likely wouldn't have existed without it, Kara's Flowers has its own sound, identity, and history... not just a blip on the Maroon 5 timeline.Shuckiduck 13:57, 14 August 2006 (UTC)

Maroon 5 is a much more mainstream sound than Kara's Flowers, having to do with I'm sure, record companies and the producers/studios. It is somewhat unfortunate because I think Kara's Flowers has a better feeling and heartfelt and young sound than what Maroon 5 does.I do not think that a merge is needed here at all.-Kevin

DO NOT MERGE THESE BANDS. K FLOWERS ROCKED! MAROON 5 STINKS CONSIDERABLY. Listen to the new Jet record. Track 3 "bring it on back" is a blatant rip-off of "captain splendid" off of kara's flowers record, the fourth world.

I really think it is better article, though I really dislike Maroon 5 :). Nevertheless, this is an article not some shitty mess like the one before. Glad to have been on board.

Drum Machine?

Listening to their stuff the drums are either miced very well or they use a drum machine for the studio albums. any truth to this?? MrM 09:37, 13 April 2007 (UTC)

History & Ryan's injury

The style of the history section doesn't look right. Combining multiple events under one paragraph is the first thing, then adding the years in the titles too... that's just not necessary when you're looking at a history that only goes back 12 years.

Also, Ryan's problems with his arms started during their first full-length headlining tour. The way it reads now, under the (2006-present) heading make it seem as tho he just started suffering in 2006.

Lastly, Matt Flynn was also not the only drummer to replace him temporarily, as the article currently implies. Ryland Steen was his original replacement. Then there was Josh Day who played until Matt took over.

In his section of "Midnight Miles," Dusick explains what happened to him on the road:

"When we returned from Europe to start our first full-length headlining tour of the States, everything came to a head. ... by the end of the third show, my right arm was shaking so hard I was incapable of signing my own autograph. ... Before I took my first break from touring, I lived with the daily anguish of knowing that it was just a matter of time before my body would give out on me. Every show was a rush of adrenaline and pain, excitement and agony.

I finally went home for a week to rest, flying in our good friend, Ryland Steen, to take my place for a few shows. ...

Halfway through [a college tour of the States], I deteriorated to such a degree that both of my arms were pretty much useless. Josh Day ... was kind enough to sit in for me while I went home to undergo tests and physical therapy, expecting to have to miss a couple months of touring. ... Over the next nine months I underwent every kind of exam and therapy imaginable, all the time thinking about the band performing without me. Matt Flynn ... assumed the drumming duties. No one could get a firm grip on what had gone wrong and how it could be resolved. ... All I knew is that I couldn't play the drums."

10 year anniversary?

Quick question re a Trivia entry: it says that the band celebrated their 10th anniversary in 2004, yet the page lists the band to be active since 1997, which would mean that 2007 would be their 10 year anniversary. Any comments on that? K.satirli 20:05, 25 April 2007 (UTC)

Explicity in "Harder to Breathe"

Forgive me if I'm wrong, but I belive the lyric in the song is "not fit to f--king tread the ground that I am walking on". It says "funking" in the lyric book, but that could be because of not wanting the curse in the book. I am almost sure that it is "f--king", because the radio edit censors this part and at every live performance, Adam puts a pause between the words "to" and "tread".Chick No.16 04:46, 14 July 2007 (UTC)

I suppose it depends on the audience, but at the Aug 25, 2004 concert in Charlotte, North Carolina, he was not censoring lyrics. Nor has he ever censored the lyrics of their cover of Nine Inch Nails, "Closer". I've removed the information and will try to work it back in with better prose. LaraLove 05:15, 14 July 2007 (UTC)

You are right about the live performances, because when "Makes Me Wonder" and "Harder To Breathe" are done on TV, he censors the cursing (I should've specified), which means that it does depend on the audience. Thanks for your input! =DChick No.16 06:10, 15 July 2007 (UTC)

Man, I'd be PISSED if Radiohead, Ween, or any other really good band censored their cursing in their performances. I paid full price for a ticket, I want to hear the music.
