- Huoxingwen/Martian isn't precisely something that you can compare with English... it is written from Chinese by substitution. Just like in l33t, you replace es for 3s and things like that t0 g3t 4n 3ff3c+ l1k3 th1s, in Huoxingwen, you replace standard Chinese characters with substandard ones, or foreign scripts. For each Chinese character, you can replace it with:

- A character which is a homophone
- A character which looks similar
- A character with a similar radical
- The Latin alphabet, Cyrillic, Hiragana, Bopomofo, Katakana, IPA, uncommon unicode symbols, Hanyu Pinyin, SMS language, etc.
- For example, the 星 in 火星文 huoxingwen (星 is literally "star"; 火星 is "Planet Mars") can be replaced by "☆", a unicode symbol that is actually a star. 的 is commonly replaced with の, as it has the same intended meaning in Japanese. 火 can become 吙 just by adding a 口 radical, which alters very little in terms of sound (but changes the meaning), and visually maintains the 火 image, etc. In the same principle, 文 wen, language can be replaced with 魰 by adding a 鱼 fish radical, which makes the character still look similar. Also, 的 is commonly replaced with "d" as that is what it sounds like, as with 比 being replaced with "b"; cyrillic can be used in a similar manner. Merger proposal[edit]
Neither this article nor Brain-disabled characters seem to explain clearly what, if any, difference there is between the two forms of Chinese Internet dialects. Even if there is a distinction, I get the impression that it might be so slight that both topics should be treated in a single article. Lusanaherandraton (talk) 22:04, 14 June 2010 (UTC)
Support - a year later I don't know how useful my opinion is. These topics overlap so much that they'd benefit from including the other. Direction of the merger should be based on whichever is the most common. It sounds like Martian language should just be added as a section in BDC, treating it as a variant thereof.
