Name[edit]

Is there any explanation for why this station was listed as "Martinsville Vandalia Depot"? There's no obvious connection to Vandalia, a different station some 78 miles west toward St. Louis. Mackensen (talk) 12:45, 11 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]

I'm not sure why the Register chose that name, but because this article meets notability guidelines thanks to its placement on the Register, it makes sense to use the official government name assigned by the Register. Usually though, if I'm not mistaken about naming conventions on Wikipedia, we should prefer the name most commonly used by secondary sources over the most formal name from a primary source. Since "Martinsville Vandalia Depot" isn't used anywhere but the Register and sites which copy straight from it, we could call it the "Martinsville Depot" or better yet, the "Martinsville Depot Theatre" based on what local news called it in 2018 and 2022. The current article title matches neither naming convention, and I think it needs to be changed, and the Vandalia name can be an additional name.
