Article name[edit]

As the wife of a knight, her correct title was "Lady Chudleigh", so the article title should be "Mary, Lady Chudleigh" (incorrect, but clear) or "Mary Chudleigh" (also incorrect, but clear). She would never have been known as "Lady Mary Chudleigh", because that was/is the form used for the daughter of a duke, marquess or earl -- a gentlewoman of far higher rank than this woman held in British society. This comment is correct: her married name was Mary Chudleigh, formally Lady Chudleigh. Source: Margaret J. M. There was no such person as Lady Mary Chudleigh or Mary, Lady Chudleigh. Being the wife of a baronet, she would be known to the world as Lady Chudleigh and to her intimates as Mary Chudleigh. Since the first sounds a bit too formal, I suggest the article could just call her Mary Chudleigh 86.150.54.166 18:05, 18 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]
