I took part in a live performance of Mass many years ago, and I'm certain that the last words "The Mass is ended: go in peace" are actually heard over pre-recorded tape: they are not spoken live by the Celebrant. Huh. I took part in a live performance as well, 1988 at Tanglewood, and I'm certain that the Celebrant spoke it live. However, our production didn't have an "altar server" either. Perhaps it varies depending on production? NerwenGreen 05:42, 13 March 2007 (UTC)

I'd have to go look, but I'm pretty sure that the booklet of the recording from a couple years ago (on Harmonia Mundi) mentions that it's pre-recorded, and IIRC is Bernstein himself. ♫ Melodia Chaconne ♫ 11:41, 13 March 2007 (UTC)

Article title

Shouldn't this more properly be Mass (Bernstein)? Other masses are dab'd by composer's name.... —  MusicMaker5376 17:16, 17 October 2007 (UTC)

This should not necessarily follow the convention used for other masses. It's not in fact a mass, but a theatrical piece titled Mass. — Preceding unsigned comment added by VAMark (talk • contribs) 21:34, 14 June 2017 (UTC)

Instrumentation

Regarding the instrumentation, there is an acoustic piano used at bar 35 of 'Meditation no. 2', and also used to accompany the 'Our Father' (in unison with the Celebrant), yet it does not appear on the list of instruments, even in the official score! European Premier

Is there a source for the info about the European premier of the piece? The Yale Symphony Orchestra claims to have given the European premier almost a decade earlier:

"The Yale Symphony Orchestra put itself on the map when it toured France in 1971, thereby making not only its international debut but its very first appearance outside of New Haven. I have just posted a short description of the European Premier performance, in which I took part as a soloist in the Street Chorus while a student at Yale, Class of 1975. My recollection is that we performed in July, but I will check the dates. The Yale Symphony Orchestra did indeed achieve a major coup by being Bernstein's choice for the performance, following his enthusiastic endorsement of Mauceri's interpretation in New Haven.
