Untitled[edit]

Jazz Bassist Milt Hinton played a rare Gofriller Double Bass during his career. The dimensions of the bass being much larger than that of a cello or violin, one could make many fine cellos or violins from the amount of wood required to make a single double bass.

The bass was in pieces in a cellar in Italy and a musical agent arranged the purchase from the family for Hinton. Hinton in his autobiography "Bass Line" ascribed the tone as magnificent and said it was one of the reasons for his long success in the the New York recording studios in the 50's, and 60's .

Casals winner gets cello?[edit]

I attended a recital by Amit Peled tonight in which he described the history of his acquisition of Casals' Gofriller. There was no mention of a contest; he said it was something Casals' widow had loaned to him and that others had been offered it but turned it down because of its poor condition.

Peled said it has had to be substantially restored to be useful and he's the only one to be playing it since that restoration. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 23.119.204.117 (talk) 04:04, 7 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]
