Harold

Can we possibly get another picture of Harold? I know there are some much better ones out there on the 'net, but due to copyright I don't want to simply take one. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 69.140.167.165 (talkcontribs) May 06, 2006 17:43:13

infobox

The length information needs fixing somehow, the template is crashing on encountering the two lengths, and I haven't been able to figure out how to get around it. --Dante Alighieri | Talk 17:37, 26 November 2007 (UTC)

  • How about using the roller coaster infobox insted of the disney rides one. Theres a infobox for twin coasters. Montu Man 1011 (talk) 23:45, 26 November 2007 (UTC)

Headline text

I'm changing the importance to high, since this coaster has major historical significance as the first coaster to use tubular steel. --Skylights76 (talk) 07:34, 18 March 2008 (UTC)

Attraction

The statement that after the main lift the "rest of the ride is an unpowered coast" is not entirely true, there are several kicker wheels throughout the ride. They serve to slow cars going to fast and to speed up ones that are too slow. Im sure it was designed that a car could make it through without help and the kickers just keep the ride smooth and regulate flow to increase capacity, but it still is not totally unpowered. A note on the basketball court, I have read some sites that say it was added to comply with local height codes, apparently only sports arenas could be built as high as this structure was, thus the court to satisfy the restriction. I cant verify this so im posting it here, maybe if someone else can we can add it to the article. 76.212.144.79 (talk) 10:20, 2 October 2008 (UTC) Sandy

Top Speed

I heard that the top speed was 18 mph, not 27 mph. It says that on Modern Marvels and most coaster sites. Could someone clear this up? —Coastergeekperson04's talk@Dec/09/08 14:54

Spanish Spiel

The last line of the The Attraction section isn't written clearly, and I'm guessing it's a translation from a hispanic contributor, though I can't seem to understand its point from a back-translation. I propose that it be deleted. --Imagineertobe (talk) 09:45, 14 June 2009 (UTC)

Holiday Hill / Snow Hill

Should mention be made the attraction was built at the site of a "Hill" that was just a mound of dirt left from the excavation of the Castle? Evidently it even had trails for hiking. Dgabbard (talk) 23:54, 3 November 2009 (UTC)

Safety Announcement

How is this notable? It's hardly famous for this ride, and the same announcement is made after just about every ride at every amusement park in the country. Why does this need an entire paragraph? 99.98.221.223 (talk) 03:05, 2 July 2012 (UTC)

The file does not appear to exist so I have removed it from the article. Themeparkgc  Talk  23:31, 10 July 2012 (UTC)
I don't want it removed, find a different photo of the same bobsleds. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 75.169.62.86 (talk) 22:26, 11 July 2012 (UTC)

    • This video has suitable licensing but I am not sure whether it is worth uploading at Wikipedia due to its quality. Anybody else have thoughts on this? Themeparkgc  Talk  07:46, 19 July 2012 (UTC)
      • I'm not keen on adding videos, generally. It should be relatively easy for anyone to search for videos of the ride on YouTube, Google or Bing. If we start posting videos, then we'll have people coming in adding their own videos saying their videos are better, etc. But, I'll go with whatever consensus decides. --McDoobAU93 19:29, 19 July 2012 (UTC)

I agree go ahead an upload it. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 75.169.82.1 (talk) 00:18, 22 July 2012 (UTC)

The Untold story of the Matterhorn, the real genius behind the Mountain

In the early 1950's Merrill Rasmus Nielsen (Oct 9, 1918-August 24, 2015) of Bountiful Utah invented summer snow. He teamed up with Alf Engen an Olympic ski jumper and they set up Exibitions in Southern California; i.e. Bear Mountain, LA County Fair and Mount Baldy. in About 1956 Merrill Nielsen proposed a ski Jump exhibition on a Mountain slope (Matterhorn), using his summer snow with a ride in/on the mountain to Walt Disney. On Oct 10 1956the Deseret News published an article about Alf Engen and the summer snow in southern california and in the article they mention Alf and Merrill having big plans for Disney Land, see link

My Mother Janet remembers as a teenager looking at the blue prints. Grandpa (Merrill) submitted his and Alf's idea and they were rejected. However a few years later my mom said that Grandpa was very upset that Disney took his idea and was building the Matterhorn, his mountain. As a child growing up in Anaheim California my grandfather never complained nor said much to us abut what happened, whenever we would pass by disneyland my grandpa would say, "There's my mountain!"

In April 2015 I asked my grandfather in the presence of my youngest son about the Matterhorn and his involvement in it development, my grandfather paused for a moment and then told my son that he was a consultant for Disney. I had never heard that one before, My Grandfather Merrill Nielsen Passed away on August 24, 2015 at the age of 96. His contribution to Disneyland has never been recognized, the Matterhorn for many years was a very visible symbol and landmark for Disneyland.

That is unfortunate if true. Are you suggesting that we somehow integrate this into the article? If you are, then we will need a significant number of resources that document it, and not just a passing mention in one publication. Everything you would like to see added needs to be directly backed up by reliable sources. Per WP:DUE. we also must limit the amount of information we include and keep it proportional to the overall scope of the article. --GoneIn60 (talk) 14:57, 30 September 2015 (UTC)
I read the post and the associated news article, and something's not adding up. The news article has the speaker tossing around the name Disneyland, which from a pop-culture sense probably fit since it was so new at the time. It doesn't suggest that the subjects of the story had any plans before Disney. It instead sounds like a "what-if?" kind of statement. Going further, the story, as presented by the OP, says that they proposed a ski-jump exhibition using their "summer snow" compound; to me, that's describing a show, not a ride. So I'm not sure how we got from ski-jump show to bobsled run. I'm also presuming that the OP is the one suggesting this mountain would be the Matterhorn, because Third Man on the Mountain, the film that arguably inspired the attraction, wasn't in production until 1958, two years after this news article appeared.
As GoneIn60 correctly mentioned, we'll need a lot more sources to back up the suggested timeline of events that would allege Disney of using a rejected idea and calling it his own. --McDoobAU93 15:16, 30 September 2015 (UTC)

Does the Mountain Trivia section not need references? Also, reference number 7 does not match the bit about the climbers.2604:6000:D905:B300:DD8A:25E2:FE67:47E0 (talk) 23:24, 27 September 2017 (UTC)

Matterhorn Bobsleds at Walt Disney World

Was there ever a plan to include the Matterhorn Bobsleds at Walt Disney World?

It seems like it would've fit right in, especially at Fantasy Land in Magic Kingdom.

Another possible location for the Matterhorn could have been at Epcot, between the Germany and Italy pavilions, given the real-life Matterhorn is located in Switzerland, between the two countries.

In any case, it would be interesting to explore such proposals somewhere on this page.
