The article says:

Castren was born at Tervola, in the parish of Kemi in Finland, on the 20th of November (December 2, 1813).

The difference between the Finnish calendar (Gregorian) and the Russian calendar (Julian) was two weeks. Hence, 20th Nov (Russian) is 2nd Dec (Finnish). Finland was a part of the Russian Empire between 1809-1917.128.214.100.224 (talk) 18:46, 12 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Year of his death[edit]

New International Encyclopedia claims that he "...died May 7, 1852, from exhaustion - a martyr to science."

He has traveled "...as far east as China and as far north as the Arctic Ocean."
