I grew up in mattituck and there are a few things that don't ring true.

If Mattituck is considered on of the most haunted areas of New York the residents are largely un-aware of it. The town of Southold (of which Mattituck is a part) does indead have many supposed hauntings, but Mattituck itself doesn't have any that are locally known. There is only one widely knows Haunting, secifically in the local community theater. However, its well known that that haunting was imagined up in rather recent times as a way to scare and entertain new members of the theater group.

I've removed the references to hauntings. They were made by an anonymous user who also seemed to be making suspicious "contributions" to other pages for LI towns. I've also removed the claim that Mattituck is one of the smallest towns in New York and Long Island, as is not even in the top 5 smallest towns on LI. --Thelimulus 02:43, 22 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

The bit that says "the last of the potato farmers were born in the 1920's and died in the 1990's" is diliberatly misleading. For one thing its down right false, there are many potato farmers in town who are quite a bit younger than that and all alive and well at the present date. In fact there is an active potato farm just a block or so from the house I grew up in (located at the corners of Reeve RD and E. Mill RD). I personally know of at least one family still involved in potato farming as of the 1990's (by the name of Lindsey) withing the hamlet of mattituck.

I would like to agree with the previous statement. I live in Mattituck and there is a potato farmer who lives across the street from me. Lead Image[edit]

It looks like there is a bit of disagreement on what should be the lead image for this page. Hellohhhhsss replaced the aerial photo of Mattituck Inlet with a photo of Long Island Sound taken from a beach on Mattituck's north shore, with the following revision comment: "previous photo had strange window reflection". That's definitely true of the old photo, and frankly, the old photo is not of a high quality by 2014 standards (low resolution, lots of JPEG artifacts). Nevertheless, I do feel it is more representative of Mattituck than a photo of the Sound which could more or less be taken from numerous other towns along the north shore of Long Island. The Inlet (and/or Creek) is the most prominent geographical feature of Mattituck, so a somewhat low quality aerial photo of it is better than no photo of it. So I'm going to go ahead and restore the old photo, and suggest that any replacement for the lead photo for this page should be of something that can only be taken in Mattituck.
