Origin[edit]

I believe I heard somewhere that Lucas adapted this from the Catholics' "May the Lord be with you." Is this true? 68.102.237.253 (talk) 00:24, 13 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Reference for origin requested[edit]

I'm flagging with a "citation required" the unsourced claim that George Lucas "created" the phrase "May the Force be with you." True, he is credited with writing and directing Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope where it was first used, but during the filmmaking process, others also sometimes contribute and make suggestions. I would like to see a book or interview cited where he talks about coining the phrase. Surely their must be something out there. Let's make the coining official by sourcing it. 5Q5 (talk) 14:50, 9 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Han Solo[edit]

Wouldn't it be better to write another example in this information-box than Han Solo? "May the Force be with you" is a Jedi-sentence, so it would be better to write a Jedi (Yoda, Obi-Wan Kenobi and Anakin definitely said it). Writing Han Solo as an example for who said this is like writing someone from England or France as an example for who sang the German national hymn, right? Please think about changing it! Han Solo is listed in the infobox, because he is credited by AFI on their list of 100 Movie Quotes, as the person who first said it in Star Wars: A New Hope. Fortdj33 (talk) 00:24, 5 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Is the sentence complete ?[edit]

Or was it originally :

« May the Force be with you ! The Right ? Who cares ? »

Origins in series[edit]

Despite the several references, no where does the article say when the term is actually used for the first time. Surely this is importantRoyalcourtier (talk) 08:33, 19 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]

This article was created by me over 5 years ago, because of its notability on the American Film Institute list, AFI's 100 Years... 100 Movie Quotes. While I am not diminishing its continued importance, this article has never been anything more that a stub, and half of the information included here is repeated in the article The Force (Star Wars). My attempt to merge the two articles was reverted by Oknazevad, but I see no reason to continue having a separate article, when the information for this phrase could easily be consolidated elsewhere. Fortdj33 (talk) 20:28, 5 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Call it a personal preference, but I hate having infoboxes and redirect related hat it's in the middle of articles. I'd rather keep them separate, because of the AFI quote listing. One is an article about Altus quote, the other is about the fictional concept.oknazevad (talk) 20:40, 5 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]
With all due respect, just because this information requires an infobox and a hatnote, does not mean that it warrants its own article. It just seems redundant to me, for this information to be in two different places, while this article has been a stub for almost 6 years. Fortdj33 (talk) 20:49, 5 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Support merge. It's only a paragraph and can easily be integrated into The Force (Star Wars)#Quotes. The article clearly hasn't got an FA or GA future. Readers are benefitted by containing information within fewer, but more substantial and well maintained articles rather than spreading the content thin. • Support merge. While it's conceivable that there's information out there somewhere on the origin and popularity of this phrase, this could be added to the article on The Force. NinjaRobotPirate (talk) 02:25, 8 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]
