MDHI?[edit]

Does MDHI actually produce the Defender? --Born2flie 20:55, 1 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Honestly, I don't know for certian either way. - BillCJ 22:07, 1 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
However, as to a title, there isn't a simple alternative either, though Hughes/MD Defender might work. - BillCJ 22:57, 1 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
You know me, always have to stir something up! ;) About the only thing I can find is that it is marketed as the MD-500 Defender on Airliners.net. --Born2flie 01:31, 2 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
The reason why I used the title was that it was to cover all the Defenders up to the 530MG which is still in production. MilborneOne 11:14, 2 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Could this be one of those articles where we vary from the naming guideline? I'd rather see something like MD 500 Defender and not have to confuse the four different manufacturers or give preference to one. The reason I suggest that is the current title just seems awkward and I would never think to look for this article here with that name. Especially since MDHI is not heavily marketing this aircraft. --Born2flie 15:40, 2 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
MD 500 Defender works for me, and is inline with "company designation/name" conventions. If it's OK with Milborne, we can go ahead and move it there, as that namespace is open. Also, is there any relation between the 530MG and the MELB? Would be interesting to find out. - 16:19, 2 May 2007 (UTC)
I have no problem with a rename. MilborneOne 17:58, 2 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Numbers[edit]

Is it true that there are so many Defenders in service ? Those numbers are kinda...huge. I mean Israel - 30 500 ?! Maybe there is an extra zero or something ? Tangra680 (talk) 16:06, 24 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

  • Maybe you should re-read the entire line. It says "30 500MD". -Fnlayson (talk) 17:05, 24 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Perhaps putting "Model" in between the quantity and model number would help, as some do write "30,500" as "30 500" to avoid decimal point/comma confusion. It would at least remove the ambiguity. - BillCJ (talk) 17:44, 24 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]
  • Good point. MilborneOne just added an x between them. I added an 's' to each 500MD as well. -Fnlayson (talk) 17:56, 24 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Opps, I didnt see there isnt an interval. And we here write 30,500 like "30 500" so I got confused. :) Tangra680 (talk) 17:42, 1 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]
  • That format was a bit awkward and is better now. So all good. -Fnlayson (talk) 17:53, 1 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

1982 Lebanon War[edit]

I read somewhere that a Syrian tank took one of these out in 1982, but I can't provide a source. AThousandYoung (talk) 06:23, 2 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

North Korea?[edit]

My understanding is that North Koreans obtained civil versions of MD 500 via various subterfuge, not necessarily the Defender, which is the militarized version. If so, is it accurate to include the North Korean MD 500's on this page? 71.226.118.10 (talk) 07:06, 21 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Your understanding is gonna need a Source to support that information. FOX 52 (talk) 12:43, 21 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Interestingly, between 1983 and 1985, North Korea illegally acquired 87 MD 500s through a front company in West Germany, called Delta Avia Fluggerate.MD Helicopters MD 500: The Best Helicopter Family Yet?--Falkmart (talk) 01:14, 16 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Design and Development section reads like it could also read & Operational history. Not much on this article. No notable history uses by any military that has purchased the aircraft. Probably just a lack of sources on that kind of information. --Born2flie 21:49, 7 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
