No photography[edit]

There's discussion here of an apparent "no photography" policy at the hall, which somone might want to incude in the article. Andy Mabbett (Pigsonthewing); Talk to Andy; Andy's edits 18:42, 21 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Questions about sourcing and size[edit]

Starting a discussion here, since the current sourcing and the information about the size of the hall have been put in question. Note that I have no opinion or personal knowledge regarding how large the place is - it just needs to be reliably sourced!

The sentence that's under discussion is "Covering 88,000 square feet (8,200 m2) and with 110 rooms, the mansion is the fourth largest historic house museum in the United States." The source that has been questioned is this article at mlive.com; another source has since been added, the webpage of the hall itself. The latter source is primary, and when information is called into question, we do need a secondary source. The problem with the mlive source is that it reads as if it is closely based on the website - I suspect that the research carried out for the article may have consisted of reading what the hall has to say about itself. Unfortunately, using Google Maps and its "measurement tool" as a source as suggested here and in other edits by the same user to show a smaller area is clearly original research, and that is even less acceptable. If this is an important historic building, I assume that it's been described in some kind of register that's independent of the building itself, and that would be a good source. --bonadea contributions talk 11:13, 2 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]

I've just added a secondary source to confirm the square footage, if that's useful. Donutron (talk) 11:19, 2 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]
