Advertisement???[edit]

As the creator and (mostly) maintainer of this page, I disagree with the comment that this page reads like an advertisement. I am interested in which parts caused this thought. Please detail... As the "person" making this assertion did so behind an "anonymous" IP address (as opposed to a registered user), I am going to take this comment with a grain of salt, and will remove it after a couple of days. Hi,

The reason I marked this as an NPOV violation was because of the tone used in the article. Some examples:

"... that contains powerful media library capability. One of MediaMonkey's strengths is in managing digital music that is held on a computer" Two points. Firstly, the term powerful is not a fact. If someone did not think the product was powerful themselves, they would be disagreeing with the article and this is against the NPOV policy on Wikipedia. The strengths part is a different beast - the strength of a digital media organiser can't be that it organises digital media, that's something that is expected of the product.

The other point I would like to draw your attention to is the last paragraph. While it's nice that you extole the virtues of the community-driven development scheme, it once again isn't a neutral point of view. The content can be kept, however something needs to be done not to upset the powers that be (if you know what I mean!).

Try this:

As of 2006, MediaMonkey is still being actively developed with new releases available two or three times a year. In addition, users are able to contribute to the develpment process by submitting requests to the devlopers, who frequent the official forums [1] (with that 1 being the link to the forum).

I don't mean to be a kill-joy - I think the article can be improved with some work.

Hello. I respect the aspiration to give only zero-judgment statements. I have worked 25 years in engineering R&D, and sweat such word choice constantly. But sometimes the POV in key info cannot be eliminated without either (1) also throwing away that same key info, ... or else (2) mind-numbing the reader with an unreadably long dissertation (to let them judge for themselves). So, IMO there is nothing wrong with using an adjective like "powerful"; anyone with half a brain knows it embodies someone's opinion -- just like in every other human communication -- and factors that in accordingly. Ah, but surely there is some midlength alternative that has "less" POV? This becomes a hall of mirrors: in who's POV is the alternative text "less POV?" Think of it as a continuum: at one extreme, you have strong POV but it is very concise; at the other, you have a minimum of POV (but far from none!), yet it's unbearably long (or omits key info as in your suggested rewrite); ... everything between those extremes is a proportional swap: any summary is POV: the more summary, the more POV. [Full disclosure: what's my bias? NPOV Take 2[edit]

The page once again did not fall under Wikipedia guidelines so I made a few edits to make it so. Hopefully now it's more like reading an encyclopedia and not a press release.

Aggregator?[edit]

The entry for Aggregator listed MediaMonkey as a Media Aggregator. I don't see any mention of this ability in the MediaMonkey article. Does it have some feature that would qualify it as an aggregator? Some googling indicates that it doesn't, but the results were inconclusive. Dr. Zed 18:27, 8 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Version 3 of MediaMonkey is a "media aggregator". It can download and view podcasts lists, and the podcast themselves. See the release notes, MediaMonkey's wiki or check out the program. -- Steegy 18:59, 18 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Language and in-depthness of Features section[edit]

I added back the previous Features section, but I feel that the language used is not neutral enough, and the feature description are not explained in-depth or correctly enough. MediaMonkey website no longer exists[edit]

Just an FYI, MediaMonkey.com no longer exists and redirects to a GoDaddy page. No idea if the software still exists online, but I'd doubt it. (As of 30-JULY-2010)
