Inaccuracy on how henna colours[edit]

Changed this sentence:

It is usually drawn on the hands and feet, where the designs will last the longest because it only penetrates the dead cells of the stratum corneum.

Henna colours because the colorant lawsone binds itself to the keratin of the skin. Hands and feet have thicker skin, and thus higher amounts of keratin, resulting in a darker colour. Removed Indian reference[edit]

I removed the line "The tradition of Henna started in India in the early days when bridal decoration was scarce" as it can never be true.

Indian aborigins - or Dravidians are dark in color and they are the native Indians. Henna, when applied on a darker skin never adds any beauty to it and people will not be using it hence I dispute the above line. I changed the edits which was speaking about inaccuracy in naming Mehandi. As the article itself contained the phrase, I changed the position and removed the Highlight given by STR1977 A Soosai Prakash (talk) 04:07, 31 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Removed languages[edit]

If everyone starts pasting their language in the top of the article then the article will have names or headings and nothing else. There seems to be competition in placing their own language first or on the Top.

Longevity of Mehndi?[edit]

I came to this page trying to find out how long Mehndi decorations last- how long they stay if left alone, how hard they are to wash/scrub off, if they sweat off, or any information about the longevity of the marks. This seems to me like pretty relevant information on a temporary skin mark. Can anyone who knows a lot about the subject add this?

Why separate article, while there is one for Henna?[edit]

Better merge this article on Mehndi with Henna as both deals and speaks the same.

The first reference link doesn't work. The other links aren't from the most reliable sources, and there isn't any variation in the type of sources used (all are websites.) Most of the facts discussed seem to be from personal knowledge rather than a reliable source, or the references simply aren't listed. In addition, the language and grammar in the article is somewhat awkward and often incorrect. There is also one image that does not have a proper caption. She has lectured at many colleges, universities, and museums. Youtube isn't any better, and Cartwright-Jones's dissertation does not meet WP:MEDRS, which is our minimum standard for making claims about health on Wikipedia. Mainstream medical thinking is that the ingredients in black henna are rather less harmful than she makes out - it is an exceedingly common hair dye, after all.
