Harvard degree claim[edit]

The article states that Tate was "first African American woman to earn a Ph.D. in government and international relations from Harvard University (then Radcliffe College)...".

She graduated from Radcliffe College in 1941, but Radcliffe did not start offering joint Harvard-Radcliffe diplomas until 1963. Unfortunately, this assertion has been reported by third-party sources, so fixing it here might be considered original research. Western Michigan University claim[edit]

Similarly, this article states she was the first African American female graduate of Western State Teachers College. In fact, there were earlier graduates of the institution who earned a four year degree. Several graduates earned teaching certificates even earlier.
