Redirect[edit]

Given the paltry information presented here, the fact that this mostly consists of so-called "examples" of the topic, and the fact that all of this is already discussed in the metafiction article, this article should be blanked and redirect to metafiction. == ---RepublicanJacobiteThe'FortyFive' 16:02, 28 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Inception?[edit]

Given the initial description of the concept, I don't think Inception fits in the examples list. I suggest removing it. -Romeovf, Costa Rica.

Definition too narrow? Examples too broad?[edit]

According to the definition at the top of the article, most of the listed films are not metafilms. Very few of them "[present] the film as a story about its own production." Most are films about the production of a film, but not about their own production. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.19.56.104 (talk) 19:16, 30 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]

The examples are far too broad. There may be metacinematic elements in many of them which are not metacinematic as a whole. I think some people believe that any breaking of the fourth wall or character voiceover is metacinema. For example, in Ferris Bueller, Ferris's statements to the camera break the fourth wall but are not metacinema because they are still from the fictional viewpoint of Ferris (not the actor's viewpoint of Matthew Broderick). On the other hand, his final statement, after the credits ("You're still here? The movie's over") is metacinema because it calls attention to the movie as a movie and the audience as an audience.Schoolmann (talk) 16:49, 13 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Changing title to 'Metacinema'[edit]

The normal term is 'metacinema', not 'metafilm'. Searching on Google Books brings up 5,100 hits for "metacinema". "Metafilm" gets only 3,200 hits and a large number of those are about metallurgy, not film, or are foreign-language texts.
