Methylating lipids?[edit]

The article claims that the toxicity of methyl fluorosulfonate is due to the methylation of lipids in cell membranes. This seems unlikely to me, as most lipids lack nucleophilic groups. I would suspect methyl fluorosulfonate likely alkylates and denatures the membrane proteins instead.
