Buble = CROATIAN FATHER[edit]

Buble is a Croatian last name from the town of Trogir. His paternal grandfather Frank was a native of Croatia. Frank's paternal grandmother was a Radoslavic, and his own mother a Galovic, further evidencing his Croatian roots. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 69.157.186.6 (talk) 22:22, 4 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Buble is a Croatian last name - father was Croatian[edit]

On his father's side he has Croatian roots. The name Buble originates from Trogir, Croatia. His paternal grandfather Frank was born in Canada to Croatian immigrant parents Mihovil (michael) Buble (mother's maiden name was Radoslovic) and Anna Maria Galovic.

Buble's paternal grandmother Nancy was also Croatian... Nancy's sisters names are Katica and Lucija, Croatian. Nothing changes this reality.

Also he was discovered by Bev Delich. Delich = Serbian name. Sounds more like a Yugoslav story than Italian. But the assumed 100% Italian sells better

Bubla is a Slavic name too. Bublje is a city in Kosovo.

Crooner?[edit]

I think that Buble should be included in the collection of musicians under the genre of "Crooners". I think he represents a revival/modern incarnation of the old Rat Pack-style of music. Thoughts?? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 99.224.167.52 (talk) 21:32, 11 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I'm surprised he isn't in the category. I think he definitely should be. While the List of crooners is by no means gospel, he is on it. Lordcheeto (talk) 00:54, 11 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

New Picture[edit]

About time for an update. That picture must've been take years ago and about 100 pounds ago too. He's way big now 99.4.107.127 (talk) 04:57, 25 December 2009 (UTC)Vera Sue[reply]

Yes, absolutely, He used to be there every Saturday morning and I'd buy some trout and carp off him. We used to get chatting and sometimes he'd break into song. Very talented guy. Love his stuff now too. The fish was also good. - John, Oxford —Preceding unsigned comment added by Petebristow (talkcontribs) 13:56, 5 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I've heard that he was known as "Mickey Bubbles" when he used to work on the fish stall in Oxford's Covered Market, can anyone confirm this? 06:32, 4th November 2009 (GMT)

I've removed the link tag for Dino Meneghin as it was pointing to an Italian basketballer, rather than Michael Bublé's guitarist. If I'm mistaken, and his guitarist moonlights as a famous Italian basketballer, (a) please go ahead and change it back, (b) I'm sorry, and (c) that's awesome, what a multitalented guy. Otherwise, I suppose it should remain that way until someone puts a page in that's actually about the Dino Meneghin who plays (guitar) with Michael Bublé. Should we move all of the discography stuff to the Michael Bublé albums page? 12:41, 7 April 2007 (PST)

Is this the most accurate picture in terms of how Michael himself dresses and portrays himself? No it is not. He always performs in a suit with a loosened tie. Perhaps we should have a picture of that, or an album cover or something. Travisritch 03:31, 2 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Just curious, fern swift does anyone know which elementary school Michael Bublé went to? Alex Ng 06:16, 3 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

This entry needs some mention of criticism, about the common criticism that he is a "mimic" of Sinatra. This is such a common comment that it needs some mention in the article.

I just deleted the "Michael Buble is hot!!!" comment at the top of the article because I feel it unnecessary data in what is supposed to be an informative piece about Michael Bublé. Whomever wants to post said comment over again on the discussion page is more than welcome to do so, but I feel it'd be a bit gauche appearing on a main article page. Krushsister 02:33, 10 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Dumped by Emily Blunt[edit]

Rumor is that Buble got dumped by his girlfriend Emily Blunt, the red-headed co-secretary in the movie, Devil Wears Prada, for the other co-secretary, Anne Hathaway.

Guess the emotional turbulence created by being dumped by a lipstick lesbian will find its way into his music pretty soon.

Well, there's always been rumors he's gay, so maybe it was just a beard relationship to begin with... —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Danflave (talkcontribs) 22:18, 24 January 2007 (UTC).[reply]

Can you give the source? Anybody can say "always been rumors" about anything.

This is completely false. I saw Michael and Emily in Toronto this weekend (Jan 28) and they seemed at ease and very happy together. They are both extremely down to earth and do not come off as the usual high-profile couple.

Just because they appear in public as a happy couple doesn't actually mean that they're happy or that they're "together."

This is an encyclopaedic article, not a tabloid. Unless these allegations are confirmed, they are RUMOURS, which have no place here. Salaskan 20:30, 17 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry but rumours exist in almost all the articles of celebrities in Wikipedia, it is only when the rumour has to do with homosexuality that it is taboo. If they can discuss Brad Pitt, Ben Affleck and the others and who their dating or not and why, they can discuss Buble's supposed heterosexuality.

Buble's performances always recongnize he realizes his fan base is almost all woman. With each concert he thanks the boyfriends for giving in and accompanying the girlfriends to see him.

Also the "He needs to lose weight" thing should be mentioned. Buble was sited a lot for being talented, handsome, but could lose a few pounds 4.142.78.130 00:18, 13 September 2007 (UTC)eric[reply]

Can you give the source? Anybody can say "always been rumors" about anything.

Why is this even a topic here? There is guide line right on the top of this page concerning UNSOURCED info. Read first before you post.

Wedding Singer[edit]

I removed the words "The Wedding Singer" from the section heading on his "Career Breaktrough." Including the words Wedding Singer in ittalics implied that this was the name of an album, book, or movie with which he is associated, which is not true. 72.85.178.73 05:12, 5 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Timeline discrepancy[edit]

His music[edit]

Is it all covers of old songs? Or does he record any new material? It seems from the article that he redoes classic songs, but it's not totally clear. 65.93.223.70 21:00, 11 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Buble records new songs and redone standards, that is his big critisim, he does an excellent job on new songs but comes off as copying Frank Sinatra on the redone old standards

Can anyone tell me what movie may have used "Home" as an ending song. I seem to recall that, but I can't recall what movie it was?

In the text where it mentions "Let it Snow" it also states that "the title track reached the top 40 of the Australia singles chart, ironically in mid-summer in that country". Since Australia is in the southern hemisphere, mid-summer is the coldest part of the year for them! How is that then ironic?! —Preceding unsigned comment added by 81.77.24.184 (talk) 09:16, 31 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

You're not serious, are you? News flash: The world (ie. North and southern hemishperes) doesn't have a single, unified season at a given time. When it is Winter in the Northern Hemisphere, It is Summer in the southern hemisphere. It was Summer for Australia when "let it snow" reached top 40, therefore it was Hot, and at the same time it was Winter in Northern Hemisphere. DOH. --Sadistic monkey (talk) 06:15, 8 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

You know, a better point to be made is that it rarely snows in Australia. More importantly, though, I can't find any evidence to support the claim that "The title track ("Let it Snow") reached the top 40 of the Australia singles chart." See List of number-one singles in Australia in 2003 and Australian Recording Industry Association Charts. I realize that it doesn't say that it topped the chart, but that makes it hard to verify (I only spent a few minutes on it). Is there source for this? Both countries allow dual, Canada would require formal renouncing (which is very unusual). I know that Michael has most definitely said that it was inspired by his realationship with Debbie Timuss. I don't even know who this Deanna Perez person is. I've never heard her name before now. Luisana Lopilato & Michael Buble[edit]

Michael Buble's girlfriend thought he was gay the first time they met each other.

34-year-old Buble first met Luisana Lopilato last November, when she was backstage at one of his concerts with a male friend. But the initial meeting didn't go too well, as neither party could speak the same language.

"I don't speak Spanish and she had no English." Michael recalls. "But the guy did so I just spoke to him. I was a bit nervous because of how beautiful she was."

"I later found out she was on the phone to her mother the whole time saying, 'Buble's gay. He's hitting on my friend'." He told The Sun.

Buble also revealed he feels Luisana's fans don't take kindly to their relationship. "I get the feeling some people - perhaps her fans - don't like me. The media there have said terrible things about me." —Preceding unsigned comment added by 213.149.10.145 (talk) 19:25, 13 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

News bullying[edit]

I'm seeing a ridiculous amount of coverage of this story, and I don't understand why - I don't see anything unusual about a posting like this. Currently Wikipedia hasn't joined the cyberbully crusade, and I won't complain about that, yet... I wonder if we could do better. Is there a way to analyze just how this internet lynch mob got together and managed to make themselves into a cause apparently more newsworthy than, say, 50,000 American citizens left to their own devices in Yemen? Or at least someone could try to give a general overview (not about this issue) of Buble's web presence/fanbase. Wnt (talk) 13:59, 18 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]

This removal edit had the edit summary "Removed "Bublé's career breakthrough came when he won American Idol in 2005" since that isn't true. He was never a contestant on American Idol." But this and this suggest he appeared on the shown in 2007? Maybe it should be mentioned? Martinevans123 (talk) 22:48, 4 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]

"Alleged domestic violence controversy"[edit]

In order for it to be properly discussed and avoid an edit war, I have removed some recently added content (which one editor had already reverted on the grounds of "tabloid gossip") regarding an alleged domestic violence incident. It must not be included in the article again without consensus as the edits may be in violation of BLP issues as well as certain other content principles and policies.

The removed information edit follows:

Alleged domestic violence controversy

"In an Instagram Livestream video in April 2020 with Bublé and his wife Luisana Lopilato, many fans were angered and accused Bublé of domestic violence towards his wife after he visibly elbowed her and grabbed her arm in a rough manner ending with a head lock with his arm around his wife's neck after she began greeting his fans with "Hola" (the Spanish word for "Hello") before Bublé did at the start of the livestream video. This sparked concern among many fans of Bublé who subsequently accused Bublé of abusive and controlling behaviour towards his wife. However, Lopilato denied the allegations and defended Bublé."

  • Afterwriting (talk · contribs), Why can't this information remain on the article? It has many sources and references and it is constantly being removed without reason by one other person (Stormyone77) who has not edited anything else on Wikipedia and is determined to keep this information off Bublé's and his wife's Wikipedia articles...I question whether this other editor (Stormyone77) has a close connection to the subject of this article as he or she is determined to keep this sourced information off these articles...and is not even willing to discuss why? --Aleslizzy (talk) 00:57, 30 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]
    • And how is it "tabloid gossip"? There is video evidence and many many sources from reputable news outlets and Bublé's wife even reacted to it - the information added to this article is just stating the facts from the many sources and videos.--Aleslizzy (talk) 01:09, 30 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]
      • Since Stormyone77 is not responding, I do not see why sourced information cannot remain on the article.--Aleslizzy (talk) 17:03, 30 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • I've removed it again as it's controversial and it's been contested. It also seemed overly detailed and far too much WP:WEIGHT put on that section. We don't report on everything the media picks up about article subjects either. Praxidicae (talk) 11:07, 23 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • Having watched the footage and the extensive analysis of the footage, on several YT and blog sites, I tend to agree. Martinevans123 (talk) 11:20, 23 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]

"King of Christmas"[edit]

He has been called "the undisputed king of Christmas for a decade".... but by these guys, which might put it into context. Martinevans123 (talk) 09:19, 23 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Unreliable source. (CC) Tbhotch 23:36, 23 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]
This website also shows he is referred to as "King of Christmas" as well, by using Google site search for "michael buble king of christmas". Iggy (Swan) (Contribs) 21:32, 24 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Croatian heritage[edit]

The current wording makes it sound like Buble's father is of full Croatian ancestry, when this doesn't seem to be the case. It doesn't seem like Buble actually says he has Croatian heritage and he always says he's just "Italian" or "Italian Canadian". Per WP:COPHERITAGE, there shouldn't be assumptions based solely on surname origin. After all, many people have Anglo-Saxon surnames but do not necessarily have British Isles ancestry. He describes both sides of his family as having Italian origins and that both of his grandmothers have Italian ancestry[1]:

My dad’s father Frank was born in Vancouver, and his side of the family is from Dalmatia, originally Italian territory that became part of Yugoslavia after the Second World War. On that side of the family, some say we’re Yugoslavian, others that we’re Italian. Both my grandmothers are of Italian descent as well

While the Repubblica source mentions his surname having origins in Istria[2]:

per via del mio cognome, che suona francese e che proviene dalla famiglia di mio padre, originaria dell' Istria.

Which the Heatley book states is based more on "rumours"[3]:

An alternative theory has it that the surname 'Buble' (that is, without the accent) is Croatian; it is based on the rumour this his father's side of the family originally came from Istria, a town close to the Croatian/Italian border

The book further states in the first chapter that his parental great-grandparents immigrated from Italy:

When Michael's paternal great-grandparents arrived in Vancouver from Italy they were known as Bubli.

So I don't know the claims stating that both of his paternal grandparents were of Croatian descent. And Buble states that his maternal great-grandparents were also immigrants from Italy:

My grandparents are second-generation Italians, descending on my mother’s side from a town outside Pescara, on the east coast of Italy. My grandpa Mitch Santaga’s family came to work in the mines in Alberta, where he grew up as a farm boy in a tiny town called Saunders

Per Buble's own words, "second-generation" usually implies someone born/raised in another country to immigrant parents, as he describes his grandparents. It seems like his maternal grandfather's family immigrated to Alberta to work in the mines.

All in all, he identifies himself as a Canadian of Italian extraction, per chapter 1 of the Heatley book:

... I'm a very proud Canadian of Italian extraction."

I don't know what the exact deal with his heritage is but it's clear that, by descent, be is NOT half-Croatian. Clear Looking Glass (talk) 04:45, 2 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
