Fails or refuses?

I have reverted the text to fails to project the more dramatic elements of the music rather than the anonymous suggestion of refuses to project the more dramatic elements of the music. We cannot know what Mr Endres refuses to do - unless the anonymous edit was by Mr Endres himself! The criticism of his playing, on the other hand, has been made in reviews, such as those in Gramophone.
