Requested move[edit]

The following discussion is an archived discussion of a requested move. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section on the talk page. No further edits should be made to this section.

The result of the move request was: Move done already as target was deleted. Fences&Windows 22:26, 30 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Michael Hepburn (Cyclist)Michael Hepburn — the phrase "(Cyclist)" is not part of the subject's actual name. "Michael Hepburn" direct first to one of the two pages, and list the other as a disambiguation. Deaddogwalking (talk) 08:14, 16 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

  • Comment It is possible that the bot is screwing things up, but this looks like a confused move request. At present we have 2 Michael Hepburns on Wikipedia, neither strike me as particularly notable and I am not sure they should have articles. If they both should, I am not sure which is the primary meaning. At present the artist is the primary meaning, I am not sure what the proposer is proposing. • Comment: Sorry, I do have to admit I am new to editing Wikipedia but I checked the criteria and the artist may not be notable but the cyclist for whom I created the page is. So what happens now? Are the pages left the way they are, or do one of these bots change things over automatically when an administrator approves the move? Deaddogwalking (talk) 15:21, 17 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

We could be collapsing two issues into one. Firstly, we have to confirm that both these Michael Hepburns are notable. Secondly, assuming they both are notable, we need to decide if one of them is the WP:PRIMARYTOPIC, or if neither is.

What happens now? Before the administrator approves any move, we need a coherent move request. This move request which effectively proposes to overwrite an existing page without going through AFD (article for deletion) is not valid. PatGallacher (talk) 15:56, 17 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

The current Michael Hepburn (artist) article has been proposed for deletion at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Michael Hepburn. We should wait a few days until that closes. Once that article is deleted, moving the cyclist to that title should be uncontroversial. Station1 (talk) 07:49, 19 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

No worries, thanks very much for your help. Deaddogwalking (talk) 12:28, 19 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]
