Depression, Anti Depressants, and Suicide

There is always risk of suicide by virtue of the fact that we don't have a cure for depression, we only have treatments, and none of them are perfect, with some being likely to make it worse. One should trust one's self to judge the quality of one's own treatment (do not take something on another's word, you ulimately have to guide yourself and trust your deepest instincts on what is right for you). I will quote Sheryl Crow: "if it makes you happy it cant' be that bad, it it makes you happy why the hell are you so sad?". My advice is to literally and vigorously apply that statement to one's own treatments.

One should never give up hope or fail to seek help on the basis that some treatments fail or have imperfections. The combination of Hope and Help = Happiness. Good Luck to all who struggle!--Tednor 10:41, 3 December 2006 (UTC)

Later Developments removal of last line

Is it really necessary to note that the site of his death is going to be demolished and replaced with a 14 story "skyscraper." Honestly, I know there is no set height in determining skyscraper status but I believe that since the early 1900s 14 story buildings have become quite common and out of the scope of what a good portion of people would label as a skyscraper.68.165.245.234 (talk) 15:28, 5 June 2009 (UTC)

Suicide a cover-up: Murder?

While I know of no references that explicitly support this theory, Michael Hutchence's financial arrangements provide a strong motive for murder. The people involved in setting up these arrangements do not appear to be as pure as the driven snow, either. cojoco (talk) 00:28, 8 May 2008 (UTC)

Paula Yates accused Bob Geldof of killing Hutchence. She was quoted in November 1997 in the Daily Express as saying: "Bob Geldof murdered Michael Hutchence...That bastard killed Michael. He is called Saint Bob. That makes me sick. He killed my baby. We have had three years of this." The police statement Paula gave after Hutchence's death also claims that Bob repeatedly threatened her and Hutchence by saying, "Don't forget, I am above the law."

Hutchence's death is discussed in Alex Constantine's book, The Covert War Against Rock where it is stated that Hutchence had injuries not consistent with a suicide: a broken hand, a split lip and lacerations.--Lomboksurf (talk) 17:30, 27 January 2010 (UTC)

The conclusion of the official Coroner's Report was suicide. However, consideration of the report by independent external experts, experts in the field of forensic science and crime scene analysis have since suggested that the Coroner could have - and perhaps should - have concluded that the cause of death was accidental. What consideration/experts/crime scene alanysis? The Coroner's report specifically mentions the possibility of autoeroticism, and rejects that cause of death as being supported by "no forensic or other evidence". I don't see why this supposition should be treated almost as is if it is as plausible as the official verdict without giving evidence. --Timtak 02:30, 18 August 2006 (UTC)

In 1999, the Coroner's Report was independently considered by Professor Stephen Hucker of McMaster University, Ontario and leading U.K. pathologist Professor Iain West. This was linked to an investigative documentary broadcast on Channel 4 TV, London. Nudity, photography, body plasma, a ring blot screw at the scene of death, coupled with an historic interest in autoerotica reported by Rhet Hutchence and Paula Yates, and the lack of a suicide note suggest that the Coroner should have returned either an open verdict or one of accidental death. I love Wikipedia, but one thing I cannot stand is how certain factions tend to rewrite history. Especially in the case of the suicide of a musician. Please give more attention to the most widely accepted and evidenced description of the event. Who paid for the Channel 4 documentary research and what was their agenda? And, where did the "evidence" the researchers analyzed come from? Also, is there a link to the program, the reports from the researchers and the "evidence" examined? What does it mean when a body is "facing forward"

In the article is says, "...and his body had dropped to the floor, facing forward." I don't know what that means. Yes, you're right. The cited book, Just a Man Chapter 12 actually states, "He was in a kneeling position facing the door. He had used his black leather belt to tie a knot on the automatic door closure at the top of the door, and had strained his head forward into the loop so hard that the buckle had broken." This seems unlikely to me and should be corrected by someone who knows better, "U.K. laws give the first person to apply for custody of the child preference and anyone, (even blood relatives), must receive that person's permission to petition the court for custody."

The statement from Hutchence's half-sister and mother [1]reads:

Tina would have been happy to do whatever it took to make sure her niece was loved, well taken care of, and had contact with her older stepsisters as well as her cousins who are closer to her age not to mention the rest of Michael's family. Unfortunately she did not get that chance as Bob Geldof filed for custody the day after his ex-wife died. Michael's family was not notified, instead Bob assured Tina that he was just providing a home for Tiger and her nanny until she arrived in London. The law in the United Kingdom is such that once a person applies for custody of a child, anyone else (even a blood relative) must ask permission of the first party to ‘join' the proceedings – a mere formality. Tina and Patricia were assured that Bob would not object as it would be embarrassing for him to publicly object to Michael's family joining the proceedings. Tina's attorney was wrong because Tina never got the chance to apply for her niece.

It needs clarification because it does seem murky how Bob Geldof was granted custody over blood relatives of Hutchence. I did not find news articles about the custody case that detail the laws applied.--Lomboksurf (talk) 17:38, 28 January 2010 (UTC)

GONE (U2)

And what's up with this article saying, "Some reports inaccurately reported" bla bla bla, then saying that the "resulting brain damage". Did it happen or not? What caused all of his shit? If it wasn't a bike accident then what was it? It makes no sense that this article says "inaccurately reported" and then says "the resulting brain damage". Proposed major edits

As a member of 2001 ARIA Hall of Fame inductees, INXS, Hutchence deserves a B-class article (or better). The current Lead is woefully inadequate, portions of the main text require re-writing/re-organising, some NPOV tone changes and in-line citations from reliable sources will be applied. Consequently, I'm going to start improving this article, and expect the overall job to take about a week or two. Oddness

"After Hutchence's death, Geldof and Yates each gave police statements on the phone calls they exchanged with Hutchence that morning but did not volunteer their phone records." The second part comes out of the blue. I don't suppose they volunteered their bank statements or their diaries either, but we don't find the need to state that. What's the sub text? Reasons for Suicide?

I am of the view that Hutchence did indeed commit suicide but I have the sense that neither the article nor the comments in this session fully deliver the reasons why. The issue with his daugther was incidental. That was not the real reason. The real reason had to do with the patterns of his life, what he had originally aspired to do when he was young only to realize later with age that he achieved commercial success but at cost which had made his soul and body so weak that self-destruction became necessary. It is something hard to articulate. Life in Hong Kong: Mui Wo on Lantau Island

There is lots of talk in Mui Wo, a town on Lantau Island in Hong Kong, that MH used to spend his summers there. In particular, in a house called Yick Yuen near the Silvermine Waterfall.

I certainly see your point. I reworded the last sentence to state: Hutchence was found dead less than a month after the album came out. I left the phrase of when the album came out as some type of time frame reference, since it was only a month following. I do find that significant...Thanks! Nerve damage

I just finished reading INXS:s autobiography and a lot of focus was put on the fact that Michael Hutchence lost his sense of smell after being hit but a cab driver. According to the book it made him agressive after the incident, it changed him as a person, he became more depressed and he could never again taste food or, and I am quoting the book, "smell the pussy of his girlfriend".

I am editing the section regarding the assault by the cab driver as he was not riding a bike at the time. He had been out drinking and was walking down a narrow street eating and refused to get out of the way of the cab. He also did not seek medical assistance for the injuries he sustained by falling for several days.

Mike in London

There are a few errors in the published details regarding the relationship with Paula. How do I know? I was their neighbour. Yes - I lived 5 doors down and saw a lot. I met with Paula and Michael (and Bob). Not sure if I want to share details at this time. Just wanted to point out that the Wiki is not completely accurate. Resting Place

Why are we considering memorial headstones and plaques 'resting places'? The article states that he was cremated and his ashes were scattered, yet the infobox suggests otherwise, and multiple places of rest none-the-less.Juve2000 (talk) 01:42, 14 June 2018 (UTC)

The article says "In August 1992, Helena Christensen and Hutchence were walking late at night on a street in Copenhagen after drinking heavily when he refused to move for a taxi."
