Regarding COI[edit]

To editors:

Please note corrections made so far and advise. Also, is there a help line or only help on line? Thanks 01:13, 11 October 2011 (UTC)

To Editors:

The fact that the poster of the article may know me should not be the litmus test which should be whether or not the article is accurate and somehow makes a contribution. Indeed, I suspect that many biographical entries are made by persons who know the subject (as that stands to reason). If the poster of the article knows me but the information is all indpendently verifiable and is "neutral," then what difference should that make. If possible, it would be appreciated if you would verify the sources and reconsider your posting at the head of the article which I consider to be highly embarrassing. If that is not possible to do, I will ask the poster of the article to simply take down the article. Please advise. I am wondering about the tag about a potential COI for the "Michael Siris" entry. Let's assume the person who posted the entry knows me. Doesn't it stand to reason that many bio entries are posted by persons who know the subject? I would think that is fairly typical occurrence. Shouldnt the test --the acid test as it were---be i) hether or not the material in the entry can be independently verified (as it can be in this instance) ii) whether or not the material is neutral and iii) whether or not the entry contributes in some fashion to wiki? I believe under those standards the entry does not deserve the COI tag. -- 75.99.90.234 (talk) 16:22, 13 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I apologize if this is a repeat (I am not sure if original message went through), but I am wondering about the "COI" tag at the head of the "Michael Siris" bio. Assume for the sake of argument that the person who posted the entry knows me. Should that really matter as I suspect that is a typical occurrence with bio's? Shouldn't the litmus test (or acid test as I said before), be whether or not the material can be independently verified, is neutral and makes a contribution? Thanks for your input here. Hi, the article doesn't seem at first glance to have big issues but when there has been a bit of COI creation imo its better to leave the template and allow others contributors to have a look at it and then unless there are specific objections posted on this talkpage in reply to your request, the template can be removed in a few days - Off2riorob (talk) 16:45, 13 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]
The article is looking good to me. I placed the tag to signal other editors that some work needs to be done here to verify the presented information and assess its neutrality after you (Mikesiris) edited the article. I wouldn't worry much about the tag. Unless information starts getting dumped on the page or dubious claims are made, I suspect it will be removed in the next few days (by me if no one else). wiki communication[edit]

I gather I am posting on my own talkpage (as opposed to my "userpage"--still not clear on the distinction). And that various people monitor my talk page and then "talk back" to me???

I noticed that on some of the messages sent to me, clicking "talk to me" took me to the editor's user page???

Help please.

Thanks

getting there?[edit]

I read that putting on my talkpage the words "helpme" inside double will prompt an editor to visit me there?? Is that correct? What about the other people who have been responding to what I put on my talkpage--assuming I did. Those people just happened to stumble on what I put up?

This is still very confusing but I am getting there, I hope.

I would like to make a contribution, have read the various suggestions, and am mulling them over.

On another matter, I noticed that, in the article about me, in the fourth paragraph from the bottom, the word "the" appears consecutively and is an obvious error. I realize (now) that I am not supposed to edit an article about me (because of COI), so if this error has not yet been corrected, it would be appreciated if someone attended to it.

Thanks!!

I'll answer this on User talk:Mikesiris.
I can't see a "the the" though, so probably that's already changed.  Chzz  ►  02:55, 21 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

i am still trying to make my first foray into editing and finding it impossible to understand. for instance, i saw a bio of someone whose DOB and place of birth I know bc i went to school with him and i got the info from our class book. I tried inputting the info but it didnt seem to go up? i assume that is bc i wasnt sourced or referenced? is there some way someone could contact me directly and explain to me how wiki works. thanks, mike siris 516 506 8841 Mikesiris (talk) 02:16, 20 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]
