White Russia vs Belarus[edit]

There are two issues here:

How to call the nationality of her mother in the article text. That should be based on the wording in her biographies. If they use mostly "White Russian", then it's OK with me to write that.
What it should link to. That should be determined more by the content of the target article and less by its name. Belarusians discusses an ethnic group. Belarus discusses the country and its history. White Russia discusses a "historical area", but its content is debatable and poorly referenced.

Ideally the selection should be, yet again, based on her biographies. If there are better sources about her mother, they should be cited. If all the sources about her "White Russian mother" are the two cited obituaries, then i would personally go with Belarusians, because it discusses the people. But i wouldn't fight for it - these names are a hot issue in Wikipedia and elsewhere, and i don't have the expertise or the mood to get into these debates. --Amir E. Short answer - I don't know. That is, I don't know whether she was ethnically Belarusian, or more generally from the "White Russia" area. Sources I have seen describe her as "White Russian", so that will do for now. Ghmyrtle (talk) 15:51, 15 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
