Youtube link[edit]

WP:EL notes:

Sites that violate the copyrights of others per contributors' rights and obligations should not be linked. Linking to websites that display copyrighted works is acceptable as long as the website has licensed the work. Knowingly directing others to a site that violates copyright may be considered contributory infringement. If you know that an external Web site is carrying a work in violation of the creator's copyright, do not link to that copy of the work. Linking to a page that illegally distributes someone else's work sheds a bad light on Wikipedia and its editors. This is particularly relevant when linking to sites such as YouTube, where due care should be taken to avoid linking to material that violates its creator's copyright.

It is unclear if the author or copyright holder of that video, while very interesting and pertinent, released the copyright. Is the copyright holder the Sunday Times? Or the original author and producer? It's not clear if either of those released the copyright. --Rkitko 19:07, 10 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Main waiting room[edit]

I made a small edit to the text, which had implied that the waiting room was completely closed in 1967. Trains continued to run, although the closing of the main entrance greatly diminished the appeal of the waiting room. The ticket windows along the main entry were shut; only those facing the baggage room remained open. I can attest to this because I was the Amtrak ticket clerk who moved the ARTS terminals (for the reservation system) when the main entrance reopened in 1975. Photography and Quality[edit]

Im removing some of these low quality photographs and replacing them with high quality architectural photographs. Ive been searching for better historical photographs of the building but its difficult to come up with anything thats public domain. if anyone in detroit can solve the historic photo mystery this article would greatly benefit from it. there are currently way to many photographs, and not enough historic. the library of congress only has photos of the original MCS building, not the one shown here.

Nice photos. Someone has tagged the licence on one of your new photos.Thomas Paine1776 (talk) 20:50, 27 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Restoring one of the photos. It shows good detail and its acceptable quality. If someone can take a better quality photo from a comparable/better angle to replace it that would be fine. For now, there is no reason to delete the photo.Thomas Paine1776 (talk) 20:47, 27 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

The photographs are okay and all, but this article is in desperate need of some color photographs. Artistic shots aside, color will better show the building in its current state of disrepair and age. chris4682 July 3, 2009

I've replaced the two pictures with larger, more recent color images. I'm new to wikipedia, so if I've borked it up or done something wrong, please feel free to let me know! Albert duce (talk) 01:45, 23 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

hey albert, those photos were ok, but they distort the architecture by using non architectural photography equipment/correction techniques. I feel its important to preserve the correct proportions of such a significant architectural structure. I agree with trying to get some color photos, we are also in desperate need of a historical photo that we can use, ive been unable to find anything we can use legally so if you find anything let me know.

Point taken, thanks for the tip! I'll take another shot over the weekend. I agree about the exterior picture, but I'm not sure I do on the interior picture. It's hard to photograph the inside of the building without getting any distortion. Albert duce (talk) 00:04, 29 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I've added an interior photograph of the mezzanine that is architecturally accurate, still on the lookout for historical exteriors or color exteriors and more details. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 38.99.160.130 (talk) 17:10, 11 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

External Links[edit]

I have cleaned up the external links section, as a few links led to news stories that were no longer topical, and there were too many links to image galleries of similar content. Albert duce (talk) 21:53, 11 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

The Trailer[edit]

We're missing some history here. Amtrak operated out of a trailer just west of the station for a while (a year or so?) after this station closed and before the New Center station opened. Kendall-K1 (talk) 16:09, 16 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Future development[edit]

The plan for a new freight rail tunnel was cancelled this year, so that part of the "future development" section needs to be rewritten. In fact, since the station was never a part of any formal plans for this now-cancelled tunnel, I'd really remove that short paragraph entirely. If no one gets to this in the coming week, I'll do it. --Criticalthinker (talk) 09:47, 11 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]

New windows - any pics?[edit]

Windows half done, as seen in January '16

Hi, since spring 2016 the Station building has fresh windows and looks much better now. Could anyone provide fresh photos (bathed in sunlight, at best)? Thanks a lot! :)

PS: The photo seen right doesn't show the full scale of the revitalization. Cheers, Horst-schlaemma (talk) 08:50, 17 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Pop Culture[edit]

Foyer & waiting room is used in the last scene of 2016's Don't Breathe, presumably as a stand-in for one of Detroit's airports. Guy48065 (talk) 03:54, 17 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]

"Future developemt"[edit]

With Ford buying the station, I'd suggest putting all of that under "future development" and then giving the former plans - many of which were not nearly as far along in their planning as this got - a mention in a sentence of two. Just kind of weird to have a "future development" section with all of those dropped proposals when we actually have a solid proposal for re-use, now. --Criticalthinker (talk) 05:41, 30 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

Ford has just created a new logo for the MCS. I think this new logo could be featured somewhere on the page. see https://uspto.report/TM/90014308 https://uspto.report/TM/90014301 lgats (talk) 19:11, 30 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Architecture vs time period[edit]

Everyone should pay attention to the intensely old architecture and how overly large the arches are in the waiting room compared to a doorway. People of the early 1900 wouldn't have been able to build this. Also, the building looks old even in the supposed original photos. 50.4.223.82 (talk) 03:53, 9 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
