Copyvio[edit]

I have just found this highly suspect piece:
"An offline procedural generation AI then reads these textures and properly populates the terrain with materials, roads, buildings, bushes, trees and more based on brush set assets the developers have made."
I searched and found this:
"An offline procedural generation AI then reads these textures based on their own parameters and properly populates terrain with materials, roads, buildings, bushes, trees and more based on brush set assets the team has made." - Published 20 July 2020

That, is WP:COPYVIO at it's most terrible.
We should NOT be stealing other peoples work for this article.
We either quote them, or we put it in our own words. It might also be that the person who put it there was hte person who wrote the article. Hopefully they will let me know.

I have altered it, changed some to a quote, and hope there is no more of that in there. Chaosdruid (talk) 04:25, 31 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Chaosdruid, thank you for spotting that. It's published in July, which is way before it's published, so copyvios are expected. Also not me, but the revision history can tell you who wrote it. It's long ago, so I don't think a warning is needed. GeraldWL 06:23, 31 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Gerald Waldo Luis Not sure what you mean by "It's published in July, which is way before it's published" --- I'm guessing the first "it" was the magazine article, the second "it" was MSFS 2020?
And no, copyvios are NEVER expected. I expect all articles to have NO copyvios.
I know it wasn't you lol [1], I am more annoyed I didn't check the article in August when I first edited it, but the sim had only just come out that morning, and I had already dealt with my DVDs failing to be delivered to Amazon by Aerosoft when I made my edits that morning ... and that evening, I was too busy flying lol!!
Too late sry lol, I had already warned them User talk:Sookenon#March_2021. They need to know so they can address any issues themselves, as well as that someone else knows. I also need to check their behaviour to make sure it was just an oversight, and that they haven't done it more in this article, or in other ones in the last year since then. The one I just changed was the biggest addition they made, at 9,000+ characters added - their usual number is more like 1200-1500.
It might just be that they were going to put it in quotes, but there were three or four words changed which would suggest they thought changing a few words here and there was sufficient. Most of their edits are fine, but there are more than a couple that are direct copyvio., such as this one I removed, and this one that has been changed since it was put in, so is OK now.
Most of their edits to the MSFS 2020 article seem OK ... it was just that one slip up as far as I can see so far. Chaosdruid (talk) 06:52, 1 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Chaosdruid, copyvios are expected. People usually rush to publish an edit, so they just copypaste things up. GeraldWL 06:19, 2 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
They should NEVER happen. It's basically stealing someone elses work.
If what you say is true, then they should have been found earlier than me finding it. Chaosdruid (talk) 07:01, 5 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
If you expect too much from certain editors, you'll have a hard time collaborating. It's vital to understand bad things/mistakes can happen within editing, and fix it wholeheartedly, maybe warn the perpetrator too. GeraldWL 03:27, 7 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I expect them to not steal Gerald, it's quite simple. Chaosdruid (talk) 17:15, 7 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Chaosdruid, and there's where you're expecting too much. And please don't call me Gerald that way. GeraldWL 01:28, 8 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I left it for a year, with a couple of looks in now and again, to see how the article progressed. I just noticed your comment though lol. Expecting people to NOT STEAL (copyvio) is too much?
As for calling you Gerald, would you prefer Waldo? :¬) Chaosdruid (talk) 16:36, 20 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Change name in title from "2020 video game" to something else since it isn't a game[edit]

MS Flight Simulator is not a game, it is a simulator. It's mostly for entertainment, but I don't think it fits the description of a video game. NorthWasTaken (talk) 10:51, 14 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

It's coming out on Xbox, sir, and it's published by Xbox Game Studios. - Seasider53 (talk) 11:59, 14 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]
NorthWasTaken, Microsoft Flight Simulator is an amateur simulator, meaning it's not like the simulators used to train pilots. Thus it's a video game. And it's also sold as a game. GeraldWL 14:16, 14 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I think "(something else since it isn't a game)" wouldn't quite meet the high language standards of WP. Also, as of date it doesn't even remotely meet the aviation training-related standards set by other amateur simulation games in order to warrant notions like that.2A01:598:A084:FCFB:45D6:3B5D:9C41:2978 (talk) 13:28, 4 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Even if it does meet the physics mastery of FSX, it's still an amateur simulator, and amateur simulators are video games. GeraldWL 13:41, 4 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Sources to be used (feel free to add one here if you see a valuable source)[edit]

Updates[edit]

With monthly updates being released, the section will eventually start becoming more extensive. The paragraph format could feel tedious to read in future stages. I would propose rearranging the updates information into a table with realease dates and update features as columns. Kors2019 (talk) 21:06, 27 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Setup[edit]

We could add a Setup chapter here! CaptainJokes (talk) 05:15, 27 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
