I must say that the mention of that Christian radio station looks a bit too much like an advertisment... it's very irrelevant, isn't it? If there wa a complete section with many examples, maybe...

MMS helps prevent downloading of copyrighted material as well as utilize UDP by default, an arguably more efficient protocol for streaming than TCP.

According to the MSDN library, MMS stands for Microsoft Media Server and the protocol is called Microsoft Media Server Protocol. But Microsoft Media Services is the name of the software including the client and server software. Thus these two identifiers are in the same relationship as HTTP and WWW. My understanding up to this point has been that MMS stands for Multimedia Messaging Serivce (also termed Multimedia Messaging System) and not necessarily tied directly to Microsoft Media Services (installed as Windows Media Services). All of the resources that I have found on the internet up to now refer to MMS this way. Could somebody please clarify this discrepancy? My understanding of MMS (Multimedia Messaging Service) is that it is messaging service protocol based on the SMS protocol and is used primarily for the transmission of multimedia content over wireless networks. Multimedia Messaging Serivce is a protocol to send text+video+audio+image messages between cellphones, Microsoft Media Services protocol is a protocol to stream video+audio to many recievers over the internet, you are mixing up the addverbations --213.80.11.162 13:24, 12 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Peculiar behavior[edit]

I play some webradio streams by using its mms-option. I use WinAmp. When I close down my PC (sleep mode) and start up the next day WinAmp starts automatically playing that stream again. Ain't that great? Try it yourself! How? Take the URL of a MP3 WMP-stream, change http to mms and play that URL (see the Add-function in the Playlist Editor). 2NG (talk) 02:02, 4 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
