Dilemma: Mike Reid the songwriter and Mike Reid the football player are one in the same. I'm not sure which is more relevant, and I can't find any similar entries to draw from. In all the cases I can think of there is one aspect that outweighs the other in importance.

I have a football bias so I should recuse myself.

Which is the real story here: the gifted athlete who turns his back on a lucrative career in sports to persue music, or the successful songwriter who once really shined on the football field?

I noticed on the Mike Reid disambigution talk page, that you didn't known where Mike Reid, the football player and songwriter, should have an article. I decided on the football portion because I have a feeling people will know him more as a football player than a songwriter. My opinion is biased because I follow football much more than country music. If you, or others, feel the opposite is true, then I have no qualms about it being moved to the appropriate place. Football or Footballer

"Footballer" is not a term used in relation to the game in America. That term is only used for individuals who play soccer. It looks ridiculous and it's not used in any other parentheticals for ambiguous names including football players. 69.7.37.69 (talk) 10:12, 4 April 2008 (UTC)

He switched to singing Country Music 39 years ago : in the words of the The Kentucky New Era Aug 8, 1991 "Accomplished songwriter and up and coming singer Mike Reid — who gave up a pro football career with the Cincinnati Bengals in the early '70s to pursue a music career — opened for Travis." en.wp has articles for two albums Turning for Home and Twilight Town, four singles, "Walk on Faith" "Till You Were Gone" "As Simple as That" and "I'll Stop Loving You" and won a Grammy Award for Best Country Song in 1984. • I don't know how much precedent there is for dual-career disambiguation, but this is a case where I think we should do it: Mike Reid (American football and musician). I think it's hard to choose a primary career for him. Yes, the NFL career was short, but he was a two-time Pro Bowler. Sports stars' notoriety often extends long past the end of their careers with appearances at marketing promotions, autograph signings, oldtimers events, etc. His music career may be longer, but arguably, based on the article, the prime of his music career, on which his notability as a musician is based, lasted about as long as his football-playing career. For musicians, perhaps the equivalent of the football players' promotional appearances are oldies concerts. So put both careers in the title. – Wbm1058 (talk) 19:15, 18 September 2013 (UTC)

• Support per nom. Per WP:DAB, disambiguators should be concise and non-unique. It's particularly problematic in this case to combine terms because (American football) is a field of activity while (singer) is a profession. Synchronizing these would leave us with Mike Reid (American football player and singer), which is quite unwieldy, or Mike Reid (American football and music), or perhaps Mike Reid (American football and song), both of which, I hope we can all agree, are pretty terrible. So let's KISS and just make the move as proposed. He's clearly better known as a singer than a football player. --BDD (talk) 19:14, 25 September 2013 (UTC)
