This Wikipedia article is a uninspiring and uninformed summary of two unique and remarkable individuals.

It woodenly captures probably less than 1% of their essence. At the very least it could reference their biography “High Endeavours: The Extraordinary Life and Adventures of Miles & Beryl Smeeton” by Miles Clark his godson.

Beryl’s own personal travels — often on foot — through the Caucasus, India, Persia, Burma, Siam, French Indo China, Chile, Patagonia, Argentina, Brazil etc. are sufficient enough before their sailing years that included two round the world eight-year voyages. The last included rounding Cape Horn westabout.

Most of us will go through life without ever meeting people of this calibre!

Beryl Miles and Beryl Smeeton[edit]

There is apparently a massive confusion here:
Beryl Miles (1919-2014) is not identical with Beryl Smeeton (1905-1979).

The author of The Stars My Blanket is Beryl Miles NOT Beryl Smeeton.... while Winter Shoes in Springtime is by Beryl Smeeton.
