Untitled[edit]

Contrary to the article's assertions, the Randolph Street Station has always been underground. The building of Millenium Park did nothing to change this. The only above-ground station for the IC/South Shore in the city proper was the old Central Station, which was torn down many decades ago. The reason all these stations are underground is that the tracks themselves are far below grade level and the Burnham Plan stipulated that permanent structures not be built along the lakefront (a stipulation which has been ignored now and then, but was adhered to in this case).

Reason for electrification[edit]

I'd always understood that the IC was electrified because of pollution problems along the entire south lakefront, and not just in the Grant Park cut. Does anyone know of a definitive source? L Glidewell 04:57, 17 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Historical Importance[edit]

Randolph Street Terminal, thus present Millennium Station, is the same as Illinois Central Depot (Chicago), is it not? Reeze2000 (talk) 14:18, 22 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

  • No - that's a different station further south --Strannik (talk) 00:45, 23 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Accessibility[edit]

The article states that the construction is accessible, but in reality the station is only partially so. The only true accessible route to the Metra platforms is through the South Water Street entrance, via a private building which isn't always unlocked. Sbergus (talk) 01:26, 22 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Sbergus: You have a valid point, but the extended elevator outage that plagues the station probably wouldn't make the cut on Wikipedia unless it is permanently taken out of service (and a citation verifies that.) I have thought about clarifying the accessibility status too, but my hands are tied, as such an edit would likely get reverted in a few hours due to guidelines concerning original research. Of course, although I agree the article should be reliable, a "temporary" elevator closure should only be listed on Metra's website, not Wikipedia. Thanks for understanding.
