I Just did a little reformatting and added links to related Wikipedia pages Tascio 22:18, 1 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

2. POV[edit]

This article is written from the view point of a mine exploration enthusiast. It lacks information because of this bias like the dangers involved in this extremely hazardous hobby. here is one example of the POV meterial.

It is highly rewarding to walk into an old mine and spend the day wandering along its tunnels; looking up into vast chambers; sometimes even boating across its lakes; and sitting in its underground buildings. Occasionally, old cranes are encountered, or the odd mine wagon sitting parked on the track. Some mines still have locomotives inside or waterwheels, pumps, and drilling equipment. Sometimes an impressive timber bridge will be found, spanning some unfathomable depth. Occasionally, you may cross paths with another exploring party, and exchange route information over a flask of tea. But mine-exploring is not for everyone.

If you could sign your comments that would be helpful!
But.. fair point - I'll have a bash at neutralising the POV. I'd disagree with your comment about " this extremely hazardous hobby" though - several abandoned mines in the UK have been certified for taking parties of school children through!
As far as the UK perspective is concerned, anyone from anywhere else in the world is more than welcome to add other areas, but it's outside my area of knowledge.

I have considerably edited this article in order to address the above two concerns. I believe the neutrality issue has been mostly resolved, albeit the final paragraph under "Why do it?" may be a little frivolous for some - that said, most of the mine explorers I know cite 'getting away from it all' as a very important reason for what they do.
I therefore propose removing the NPOV tag unless anyone disagrees.
As far as the UK-centric issue is concerned, I've made attempts to improve things and I think the article is mostly neutral. No doubt it would be helpful if people could add some examples to the appropriate section rather than merely adding a link to their own website.
I'm not sure about removing the UK-centric tag: I think this is mostly resolved, although the article is now balanced between the UK and the USA - any thoughts?

Yes I agree you have resolved POV. I think the article is much improved. Sorry about not signing my earlier comment.

Going back to dangers, I've added a note of false floors over understoped areas. In the mines I've been in (mostly in the Lake District) it's one of the more important hazards to be aware of, and a bit distinct from covered shafts. Riedquat 18:37, 29 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

3. External Links[edit]

I have edited the external links into alphabetical order. It seems that a degree of editing had occured to bump certain sites to the top of the list and this seems the fairest way of doing it. On a similar theme, the SubBrit link was to a search result, so I've changed this to the SubBrit home page. Vanoord 13:15, 27 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

4. Safety Statistics[edit]

Removed "These statistics are very minimal compared to many other popular forms or recreational activities." The statistics it refers to are only the raw number of people injured in mine exploration---it provides no information on how many participate, which is necessary for comparing it to other activities. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 134.173.60.239 (talk) 20:59, 26 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]
